How about Irish nationality for a Thai simply by being married to an Irish national ?

My friend's Thai wife who has never even been to the Republic got her Irish citizenship/passport two years ago purely on the basis of being married to an Irishman !

Unfortunately, as of 30 November 2005, Irish citizenship via marriage must be acquired through the normal naturalisation process. The residence requirement is reduced from 5 years to 3 for the spouse of an Irish citizen.
