Hello I am new to this.

I recently signed up to study Thai language for a year in Pattaya and the school said I need to wait a few weeks to get approval. They said after this I need to go to Laos to get my visa. They said I could go to Savannakhet because it was the closest. I have a few questions though.

1. What type of visa do I apply for on the application? Is it called ED visa or Non O? How long is it?

2. I am a little confused about how it works. Is the visa a 1 year visa that I must do a check in every 90 days with immigration? Or is it a 90 day visa that get extended for up to 1 year?

3. My wife (not Thai) is going to apply for a Non 0 dependent visa based on me studying. If we apply together what paperwork does she need to submit besides the visa application, a copy of her passport and 2 passport pictures? Do we need to show bank statements? Or Marriage certificate- does it need special translation or certifications? Does she need a letter from my language school? Anything else?

4. After we receive our visa's how do the check in's with immigration work? Can it be done online? We will be in Jomtiem.

5. How many days after we receive our visa do we need to do the check in? Can we go together or do I need to get mine first and then my wife can get hers done?

6. I know after we arrive to Thailand we need to register our address. When we do the check in's with immigration what paperwork do we need to bring? I heard the fee is 1900 baht/person?

Sorry for so many questions but it is a confusing process being my first time doing this.

1. You would a apply for a single entry non-ed visa that will allow one 90 day entry

2. You will be applying for 90 day extensions of stay. And be doing reports of staying longer than 90 days in the country.

3. You wife will apply for a single entry non-o visa. She will need your marriage certificate plus a copy, copies of your passport photo page, a completed visa application form with 2 photos attached. If your marriage certificate is not in English it will need to be translated to Thai. No financial proof will be needed.

After getting the non-o visa your wife will have to apply for extensions every 90 days like you will have to do. When applying for the extension your marriage certificate will need to be legalized by your embassy or a authority in your home country. If not in English the translation of it will need to be certified by the Consular Affairs Department in Bangkok.

4. The 90 day reports can be done in person, online or by mail.

5, You will both apply for the first 90 day extensions during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry from the visas.

6. It depends upon where you will be staying for the reports of you staying at a residence (TM30 form). If your landlord does them you will not need to do them. There is no fee for doing them.

The 1900 baht fee you mentioned is for the extensions of stay.

Thank you ubonjoe for the quick and detailed reply. I have a few follow up questions.

1. I thought I heard the school saying something about 15 days after we get the visa we must go to immigration and then again at 90 days is this true or did I misunderstand? If it is true is this just for me or my wife as well?

2. We will be staying in Jomtiem Pattaya. In your experience Is it better to do the 90 day reports online or by mail?

3. Is it required that I complete my 90 day extension first before my wife applies for hers? I am not sure since her visa would be based on my visa?

4. So my wife will not need any special paperwork from the school correct? That would just be for myself?

Thanks again, have a great day!

1. Perhaps the school was referring to the last 15 days of your 90 day entry instead of 30 days.

You will not need to do a 90 day report until 90 days after the day your apply for your first extension.

2. Since you will be getting extensions every 90 days it might best to them at the same time you apply for the extension. Online is the easier than mailed in reports.

3. As soon as you have the extension stamp in your passport your wife can apply for her extension.

4. Your wife will not need anything from the school to apply for her extensions.

Sorry, I am a little confused by your last response.

Is this what you are saying we would do:

1. Apply online together 30 days before the 90 day mark.

2. We will get an appointment date to go to immigration to get an extension stamp.

3. I must go first to get my extension stamp and then my wife is allowed to get her extension stamp.

What papers/information gets submitted during a 90 day extension online? Do we need to bring any papers when we go into immigration to get our extension stamps?

Thanks again.

1. You cannot apply for the extension online. That is only for doing reports of staying in the country longer than 90 days.

2. You will not get an appointment to apply for the extension. You will do yours when the school has all the supporting documents for you to apply.

3. You could both do your extension during the same trip to immigration. First your extension and then your wife's.

You will need a stack of paperwork from the school to apply for your extension. You wife will need your marriage certificate, copies of her passport pages, and your passport photo page and extension stamp.

Thank you ubonjoe.

So there is 2 things. We must do a 90 day extension and a 90 day stay report. I was thinking they were the same. If i understand you correct the 90 day extension must be done in person at immigration (30 days in advance) and this is something that I must get my stamp first before my wife can submit hers.

A couple final questions.

1. It seems you were also suggesting that we do the 90 day stay report at the same time we do the 90 day extensions? Is it better to do it like that or do it online? If we did everything in person all together what paperwork do we need for the 90 day stay reports in addition to the paperwork we would already submit for the 90 day extension?

2. You mentioned the 90 day report of stay can be done online for Jomtiem Pattaya. How many days would we apply for this in advance? Is it an app or a website? Could you provide me with the link if you know it?

I appreciate your help!

It is a report of staying in the country longer than 9O consecutive days.

The extension of stay has to be done in person. You can do it at anytime during the last 30 days or your current permit to stay.

You must have the extension application approved and the stamp done in your passport before your wife can apply for her extension.

It is you choice where you do it online or in person. Link to 90 reporting site: https://extranet.immigration.go.th/fn90online/online/tm47/TM47Action.do

The window for doing the online 90 day report is 15 to 7 days before the report date.

To do the report in person you only need a completed TM47 form or a existing report receipt and your passport. You can it up to 15 day early or 7 days after the report date.
