Taking your Thai partner to the UK, whether to live or just for a visit is a big step!

There are a number of matters which you should address in the months before you apply to make the somewhat complicated process a little smoother.

Unlike Europe, the UK does not require that you have travel insurance as part of your visa application but it is certainly worthwhile to budget for it as travelling without insurance is not recommended.

Single trip insurance can cost from as little as 1000 THB per trip up to 5,000 THB for an annual policy. You can purchase online or at a local insurance broker.

Take photos of you and your partner together, either at home or at any number of local tourist attractions (try to avoid drinking establishments). The entry clearance officer will be looking for proof that you and your partner are in a genuine relationship and photos together is one way of proving this.

Think about where you are going to stay in the UK, if you will stay at a hotel or AirBNB then you need to book beforehand and provide proof of accommodation as part of your visa application.

If you are going to stay with friends or relatives then they will need to provide a letter inviting you and your partner to stay along with proof that they have adequate resources for you to stay such as your own bedroom. It is advisable to supply photos of the accommodation along with the application if you will be staying at a residential address.

Applying for a UK tourist or settlement visa can seem daunting but with the support of an experienced visa agent it can quickly become much easier. Don’t run the risk of heartbreak and disappointment by trying to save a few pounds, spend your time and energy planning how to spend your time in the UK and leave the visa worries to the experts.
