Problem with tonsils.

Featured Replies

When I get a heavy head cold my tonsils become very red and swollen and can bleed.  I also get hot, puke up many times.and get a very sore throat.  This happens about once a year, it depends. The symptoms last a few days.  The cold itself goes very quickly.  Whatever, illness I have I tend to suffer very acute and strong symptoms, but usually recover far more quickly than is usual.  I don't think my tonsils are chronically infected- certainly a doctor has never remarked so.

I do wonder whether I should have an operation- it would save a lot of pain in the long run I guess.

What's the current medical advice?  I've no doubt a Thai doctor would advise removal, but I'm not so sure about this.

That might be the tonsils doing their job.

It's a fair point.

And it could be what happens at 57, when organs do grumble a lot more than before.

The thing is a common cold can turn in to something a great deal more unpleasant than it ought to be.

Tonsillectomy will not help.

Try taking zinc supplement at first sign of a cold. Redoxan (zinc + Vit C effervescent tablets) works wonders for me. Any pharmacy.

Yes, I was wondering if it would do much.

Thanks Sheryl- I'll stock up.
