Hello,

I am with TOT ( fiber ) and now ( unlike last year ) I can't access to my modem Edimax

with Edge or Firefox, I have the message " http: //192.168.2 .1 is requesting your username and password. the site says" Defaut:admin/1234 "

I know the username is " admin" and after, when I write my password , or even 1234 , I have the same text again, my password doesn't work anymore

what can I do ? Last year, doing this, I had a direct access to my modem

thanks

Some option:

1. Ask the person or company which installed it for the password

2. Look at the device, maybe there is a sticker on it with the information

3. Look at any documentation you may received

4. Try other options like password, 123456, etc.

5. Reset the device. Likely there is a reset button. Be careful, if you do that you should know all the parameters to set it up again.

6. Leave it alone

Op, try your TOT user id, (mine is y38XXXXXX), I got a replacement modem not long ago and by default they set it up using tot user as the router password. also had a Tech change it to "tot" at one time.

Try username admin.
password admin.

And as suggested earlier
Username admin
Password your subscriber number which is printed on your ToT bill.

Nearly always 192.168.1.1

But sometimes username is 'admin' and the password is last 4 digits of it's Mac code.

Should it not be 192.168.1.1 for the router?

Could be, good catch (and the OP could try that) but 192.168.2.1 is a perfectly acceptable address and the OP is  getting the password prompt

of the router thus it must be the correct address.

For me, it's 192.168.2 .1, but I know what happened

the password ( the one I changed last year )was good, but there was a security warning which prevented the access to the router, it came from Windows ( UAC ) ; I have put it to " never warn me " ( or something like that, my Windows is not in English ), and it works

every time there is a message about security, think of UAC

Thank you for your help

OP,

very strange then when connecting to your Router that UAC complains !

UAC IMHO only complains when you try to do changes to your computer like install software or so, and AFAIK when you connect to routers this shouldn't happen.

Have you checked your PC for malware recently ??

The IP address can be almost anything. Typically something like 192.168.x.x

But with two devices (ASUS and TOT whatever) make sure you look a the correct device.

Some time ago I was in an office an tried to enter the username and password. It just didn't work.

And then I figured out that the username and password I used was for the device with the IP address 192.168.1.1 but the device I wanted was 192.168.1.2 ...

Have a 2nd look at the logon screen and look if it is actually from the device you want to access.

I don't know why it comes from UAC, I check often for malware , and I install and uninstall often; anyway, it works ; I open an other message for an other matter

For people who are interested or can explain, after entering password and name, nothing happened, as explained above; when I quit the window, there was a " 401 unauthorized" message with long text that I don't remember

problem came from the browser ( Edge or Firefox ), not from the router; I have thought of UAC because in the past I got the same sort of unauthorized problem

with no AUC open, I don't need any authorization, but I don't know how it works

maybe after all, it has no connection with AUC, but what I know is that with no AUC open  I have access to my router, like last year

Can you please do the following (I assume you use Windows 10 as you are saying Edge)

1- Press Windows Key + R and type CMD in that screen and press enter

2 - in the black screen type: ipconfg /all and press enter

3- A long list of text appears, have a look at where it says: Default Gateway and DHCP Server.

4 - Post those numbers here.

5 - In that Black screen type Exit and press enter to close it.
