Getting paid obviously isn't enough they need serious cash incentive to get off their a** and do anything.

Not sure what pay is now but a few years ago entry level monthly police salary was below Baht 9000 and average overall was less than Baht 15,000 and they had to pay for their own uniform and firearm.  Considering how many highly paid police in the west "augment" their salaries, it's not hard to see why "getting paid obviously isn't" the greatest of all incentives to get off their a**es.

Shakedowns are nothing new. Be careful as there may be people impersonating the RTP. It should be an official checkpoint. If you’re breaking the law, you’ll probably have to pay. Nothing new. Doesn’t hurt to keep a lawyer handy or some one with connections. Either way. It’s pay one way or another.

It was a very official checkpoint and has been referred to in the past. I brought it up nearly to advise people who like to party on sukhumvit

I witnessed cops harrassing a group of 4 young Japanese about a month ago on Sukhumvit a few blocks south of Asoke. The cops were adamant that they were going to drag these kids to Thong Lor because one of them was smoking an electronic cigarette and he would have to pay a fine. I tried to point out the ridiculousness of this and suggested they take the offending item and warn the tourists that it's not allowed in public. They weren't having any of it.
Some obscure recent law held in the shadows (not creating any public awareness campaign) is a dirty sneaky way to extort money from your bread and butter tourists.

Indeed, the Japanese kids were the BiB's bread and butter tourists.

Personally, I find the BiB a right bunch of softies but maybe that's because I smile a lot, don't take them seriously as well as generally following the laws of LOS, of course.

I do want to bring over my vape kit on my next visit (recently gave up smoking cigs) and barring any problems at the various airports that'll be that as won't vape on the street, just discreetly.

Hey OP,  why don't you drop by Toronto for a few days? Watch some TIFF, vape and smoke some Broccoli - all legal in a civilized country.

I don't vape and broccoli isn't that important to me.

I guess the “prejudice” comment at the bottom of your comments is a self portrait then.

legalisation of recreational cannabis in Canada on 17 October. Is that the same as broccoli?  Don't know what TIFF is.

But could cause some issues if then wishing to visit the US.

Practically isn't going to happen with the good herb being legal in many states including DC.

Just another chance to bash the US and off topic anyway.

Noticed now that the tourist police actually have a tent/stall  just down from Asoke towards Nana and are grabbing litterers(mostly fag enders)and fining them there.Seems to be only operational up till early evening!

It's been there for years.
