Looking for local crafts man wood turners on phuket. Wood turning is the art of using a wood lathe to create wood items in the round. Example salad bowls, cups, vases ect.

I am a "wood turner" and write about woodturning techniques around the world. We will be visiting phuket for a couple of weeks beginning 23 February.

Have already visited some wood turners around the chang mai region.

Thanks for your assistance.

Hi Roman

If wooden art is your thing then make sure to go to the big wood shop just opposite the Family Inn at Patong. Here you can buy all sorts of wooden articles. They even have huge chairs made from tree stumps but fashioned into the images of elephants. You wont regret going.

Roman, whilst you are here in Phuket, can you please 'turn' about 50 knobs for my cord-pull lights?!

I come from Chesham, Bucks, UK - which has a long history of wood-turners, with a number still operating in the town. I was used to getting solid and heavy cord-pull knobs turned when I lived in the UK.

My hotel uses cord-pull light switches, (bought in the UK), but I forgot to get the wooden knobs. So I'm using the supplied plastic knobs. But traditionally-turned wooden knobs would look much better!

There are some amazing wood craftsmen currently working at the Cape Pakarang Boatyard just north of Khao Lak. These traditional artisans are now applying their skills to all manner of wood-working projects.
