Since my wife is teetotal I'm sure that she would be mighty relieved to learn that she would no longer need to participate in a pub quiz as part of any application for UK citizenship! ????

The Life in the UK test was always a joke.... British Values sounds more appropriate.....as long as some civil servant isn’t left to devise the questions!

It may sound like Sabre rattling but the current PM’s track record as Home Secretary hardly provides confidence that the current government will toughen up.

Freedom of Movement, whilst sounding perfect for 8 or so economically comparable countries, was doomed to failure when extended to cover the ar5e-end of Europe.

This sounds like a much better system than the current test.

I wonder what the time frame is for this to be implemented and will all passes of the current test be up held for visa applications ?

I am not a fan of Teresa May but the Home Office she inherited was considered unfit for purpose. The one she left was largely unfit for purpose. Some improvement perhaps but still a desperate mess.

The arguments for and against the 'life in the UK' test have occupied several threads here but it should evolve over time.

My sister-in-law passed the test but did have to put in quite a lot of work. A bit like the driving test theory test.
