Burmese man drowns trying to rescue monkey

Three male Myanmar citizens did the right thing and jumped into a lagoon in Koh Kaew last night trying to rescue a monkey. But one of them drowned during his efforts to save the distressed monkey.

 

Kusoldarm rescue divers were notified that a man had drowned at the lagoon in about 6pm.

 

38 year old U Mae Au, a Burmese national, was waiting near the lagoon. U May Au told rescue divers that the person who had drowned was his 18 year old son Set Pai So.

So they are not all fiendish murders as many Thai's would have us beleive.

Save the monkey or catch dinner ?

The right thing to do? Only if you're nuts. 

I’m guessing the monkey made it? I’ve read the same thing about people dying trying to save their dog ... the dog finds a way out and they drown. To err is human.

Definitely not the right thing to do. Why do news articles in Thailand continually claim that non-swimmers should attempt to save someone (or something) who may or may not be drowning?

True..but.."Greater love hath no man than he who would lay down his life for a friend."

 

It often brings out the best in us and yes a friend can be a horse,a monkey,dog or cat..etc.It is-paradoxically-the human spirit.

Is crazy to see vids on the web where 3 people drown 3 meters from shore.

First rule of Rescue - "Assess the situation to see if you won't get hurt attempting a rescue, thereby now having TWO victims instead of one."

 

RIP guy, your heart was certainly in the right place.
