Sorry, but can't find this information anywhere.

Since the UKVI announced that all Settlement Visa applications are submitted directly to Sheffield from 30th Jan 2017.

https://www.vfsglobal.co.uk/th/en/news/new-address-for-documentation-when-applying-for-a-uk-settlement-visa

What exactly is the process in chronological order.

An appointment with the VFS is still required to submit biometrics, but would they still require the completed application form and supporting documents.

It would now seem common sense for the applicant to complete and send their documents and translations to their UK partner for posting to Sheffield, rather than the partner send their documents to Thailand, only to be then posted back to the UK.

The online application could be completed in either the UK or Thailand.

all supporting documents should be sent to the UK address below by the sponsor or applicant.

Which means that the applicant can either

  • send their documents, including signed hard copy of the application form, to Sheffield directly,
  • have the sponsor send their documents to the applicant so the applicant can send everything to Sheffield,
  • sponsor and applicant send their documents separately or
  • send their documents to the sponsor so they can add theirs and send everything to Sheffield.

I strongly suggest the latter.

  1. fill in online form,
  2. make appointment at VFS for biometrics,
  3. pay fee and health surcharge online
  4. print and sign hard copy of form,
  5. attend appointment for biometrics,
  6. send paperwork to sponsor in UK (or give to them if they're in Thailand),
  7. sponsor adds theirs and sends all paperwork to Sheffield.

Thanks 7by7.

The point I was trying to make is what exactly will the VFS require at the Biometrics appointment.

A copy of the application form, for the unique reference number, and/or copies of the applicants documents for checking.

If they still required the applicants documents, then why not the sponsors as well!

Whenever I've visited a VFS office, they've always had a 'document checklist' form they complete. (Attached).

The site and details for submissions have remained the same, even though they've now changed the address to submit the documents for Settlement Visas.

I'm assuming the biometric details will be sent electronically to Sheffield.

I would like to get all these documents when I go to Thailand to get married to avoid posting it from Thailand later on.

If any of the supporting documents (originals) need to be presented in the visit to VSF (step 5), then my partner would need to post the documents to me in the UK.

Not a big deal since she wouldn't be sending her passport, but still it would be good to rely on VSF / UK to sort out the collection of document from the country of the applicant. I thought the 1.5k fee would cover that. :(

Sorry to piggy-back this thread but I have a question regarding IHS and how to make payment.

I helped a friend submit an online settlement application and, after submission, the Visa4UK site took him to the payment page for the application and he paid US$2,056.

Nowhere did it direct him towards payment of Immigration Health Surcharge, which he had calculated at £ 600.

It's within the application completion process.

You pay the IHS surcharge first then return to the application.

You must have missed it!

You should get an e-mail in case of non payment of the IHS.

If you do not pay

You’ll get an email from UK Visas and Immigration if you do not pay the surcharge (or do not pay enough) as part of your visa or immigration application.

Check your junk folder if you cannot see the email in your inbox.

Once you get the email, you must pay the surcharge within:

  • 10 working days if you’re inside the UK
  • 7 working days if you’re outside the UK
