webfact
NY limousine crash kills 20 in deadliest U.S. vehicle accident since 2009 By Gabriella Borter A limousine crash in the upstate New York town of Schoharie killed twenty people Saturday. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating. NEW YORK (Reuters) - Twenty people were killed in rural upstate New York when a limousine collided with another vehicle, New York State Police said on Sunday. The crash occurred just before 2pm on Saturday afternoon in Schoharie, about 38 miles (61 km) west of Albany, on Route 30. The limousine sped through an intersection and drove into a parking lot outside an Apple Barrel Country Store, striking a vehicle and two pedestrians. All limousine passengers were killed, as well as the driver and the pedestrians, state police said. Local media reported the limousine was carrying a wedding party. It was the deadliest transportation accident in the United States since a 2009 plane crash in Buffalo, New York, that killed 49 people, said Chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board Robert Sumwalt. The victims were transported to Albany Medical Center where autopsies will be conducted. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo released a statement Sunday thanking first responders for working on the scene through the night. "My heart breaks for the 20 people who lost their lives in this horrific accident on Saturday in Schoharie," Cuomo said. The Apple Barrel Country Store, the scene of the crash, posted a condolence message on Facebook. "Our hearts and prayers go out to everyone that was affected by the events of today," the post said. It was not a standard limo, it was a modified stretched limo: Quote The Ford Excursion in Saturday’s crash was lengthened after it left the Ford factory, an official told the AP. The Suffolk grand jurors found such limos often lack adequate side-impact panels and other features to make them stronger. http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/ny-metro-limo-crash-20181007-story.html That there were 18 people in the limo who died in this crash does not make it Thai related. There are striking similarities to carnage that happens like this in Thailand. So with that said, I see the relationship. These things don't just happen in Thailand ! More often in Thailand, yes. But they also happen elsewhere around the world.

pegman
It was a birthday party not a wedding. There were 4 sisters with their husbands. The youngest sister was having the birthday. The pic is from Google street view from the direction of travel of the limo. Could have been a medical issue with the driver. Justgrazing
They are quite ridiculous contraptions .. Not to mention dangerous as many have seating that runs longitudinally along the vehicle rather than rows across the vehicle that is found in purpose made minivans and buses making their seat belts much more effective .. These things are now heavily legislated in the UK with over 9 seaters requiring the driver to have the same PSV license needed to drive buses and the limo's thereselves are subject to the same regulation's as public service vehicles .. blackhorse
Would have thought at least one would have survived at the back using the bodies up front as a cushion.Sounds more like a plane crash. RIP
Sir Dude
Well, must have been going at some speed to pull this accident off and there's me thinking these limos go slow due to the fact that if you don't, then it's a death trap. Stargeezr
Seen a few of these really stretched limos, and heard of how no one belted up as the interior was in party mode. I have a feeling that was the case of why every one died. Geezer
