Thai woman issues dating site warning: All is not as it may seem

A Thai woman has gone to the police to say that someone created a fake profile in her name on a popular dating site.

It contained an unsavory name and some suggestive ideas.

Wiphada Lijanporn or "Pang" who is a web master at a Khae Rai company in Bangkok  told the cops that late on Monday night she received a call from a man who had seen her picture and mobile number on Thaiflirting.com.

Pang said she had never gone on the site let alone created a profile there.

She investigated and found out that someone had lifted her pictures from Facebook and created a profile in the English written name of Pangtoleamak1.

She was listed as 27, living in Nonthaburi, interested in men aged 40-60 who likes to dress sexily. It was hoped that men would find her attractive.

The cops contacted the tech experts on the force who discovered the website is based in Germany and efforts were made to have the profile removed.

They said that people creating such profiles could face two months in jail and fines of 200,000 baht.

Wiphada warned Thai women to be on the lookout for nasty people doing such things and to always report incidents like this..

INN did not report why she may have been targeted in this way.

Thaivisa notes that the term "toleamak" probably relates to Thai words (ตอแหลมาก torlae maak) that means "bull**** aplenty" or "serious liar" indicating that the victim may have been targeted by someone upset with her.

Police are trying to find out who created the profile.

Hmmm.

I have never been on one of these sites that allows you to post your phone number in the profile or any place.

Numbers can be exchanged if you wish after contact is made on the site.

Just sayin.. Hope things get worked out.

Shouldn't this read "200,000 months in jail and fines of two baht"?

Good to know.

What's that got to do with my post?

Years ago there was a scam on some dating sites that were created in Thailand. Turns out that a guy (and his wife I think it was) were creating false profiles (similar to that mentioned in the OP) and then would converse with anyone that clicked on those profiles, pretending to be that "hot, sexy woman that likes fat old foreigners".

The scam was that the foreigners would have to pay for "premium" memberships in order to see more "intimate" pictures or get contact information or the ability to send/receive more messages (basically the same things that pretty much every dating website does minus the husband/wife imitating members bit).

Not sure how they were eventually caught but it didn't seem to change anything as it seems there are more dating sites popping up everyday, everywhere and I'm guessing that the most "attractive" profiles on them are also fake.

(Except for the girls that are in Pattaya and use those sites like an escort service. They are probably real.)

I have been on several of these sites over the years and often wonder.

Soon after I signed up and if you do not have the "premium pay" membership, very attractive girls send interest messages.  From there in order to communicate with them, you need the pay subscription.  I bet lots of guys jump it hoping to hook up with these girls.  But of course any response from these hotties never amounted to anything seems like simple responses almost computer generated.

PS:  I like your last comment about Pattaya very true which is not a bad thing. ????

It seems that you can tell which ones are "available" for P2P by their names as many of them have "foryou" in their usernames ("xxxxforyou") and under age preferences they list "Any" and "Any".

The profiles don't usually say much because I think they'd have to be deleted (in a hurry) if they actually said what they were doing or listed prices and such. I thought I saw someone I knew on one site a couple months ago (the "sister" of a friend of mine). Wasn't her but within seconds the person it was - was sending me messages even though I hadn't done anything other than click on her profile.
(After seeing some of her other pics any thought of pursuing the matter further were long gone. I don't think I've been back to that site since then !)

It has always been like this, the dude stealing her pics is most likely a fb friend already, but then again there are no data laws here that protect us.

just like the rest of the world using the internet requires common sense and many people don’t seem to care how much they reveal and share and therefore making it super easy to mess with people who leave it all out in the open. It’s a 2 sided sword for sure

Happened to me as well. Person pulled my photo from an employer's website and used my name. A lady friend altered me to it, and I complained to the company (Badoo) that runs the site/app. I never heard anything back, but my friend said she never saw the profile after that. The 'nice' thing was that the person under-estimated my age by 15 years in the profile … I'll take any compliment I can get! ????

The ThaiCupid site along with all their associate sites such as ChinaLoveCupid or whatever it's called are legit. (They have one for the Philippines and other countries) . Of course not all the women are legit, but the fakes are very obvious after a couple of messages.

I just found the profile on Thai Flirting.

It`s says she`s new and was last on there a day ago.

No contact details given, but it does say, she likes to smoke and drink and would any guy like to take her anywhere for a drink 2B2, whatever that means, all written in Thai.

It does have a report abuse button on the profiles, wonder if she has used that? Problem is, now that her profile user name has been publish and her real name, that`s going to bring more unwanted attention to herself.

Simple solution is don`t post photos on facebook and other social media.

Most of my Thai friends complains that, in general Thai Girl profiles are fake and picture don't look like them when they meet for dating.

How come there is a good real beautiful profile can be fake again ?

Probably it is time for some company to start real profiles when the client is present would give good reputation, and good business in Thailand.

All we can trust in Thailand is, Massage center forwarded profiles are real in Line.????

Working as a web master and not be able to set the privacy settings on FB in a way that non friends can't see or download her pics. And even listed her phone number somewhere? Says it all really.

How do we know it was a non-friend?

Contrary to popular belief, nothing posted on facebook is ever private, no matter how users adjust their settings. If the girl has placed even more provocative or sexy photos of myself on facebook, expect to see them spread all over the Internet soon or even used to advertise porn.

Just found her on facebook, twitter and instergram.

She has hundreds of photos of herself on those medias. Not being a friend I had access to all her data on those sites and within only a couple of minutes probably discovered more about her than she knows about herself. This means whoever created that dating site profile of her, could be anyone out of thousands of people, maybe someone not even in Thailand.

If these people do not take precautions to protect their own privacy, than what does she expect the police to do? Sorry, don`t have a lot of sympathy for these people.

One of the sexiest photos of her on the dating site is obviously photoshopped. Her head on another body.

Sounds like the tree you speak of might be a Thai speaking person trying to cause grief for this little peach.  She certainly looks a nice person with a responsible job.  Hope it works out.  I'll bet that 95% plus she knows who has likely done it but with the site based in Germany it may be difficult to prove anything.

After looking at her media sites, yes, she does appear to be a very respectable young woman with a career. Wouldn`t surprise me if the culprit is another woman, done out of jealousy.

There was one site, can't remember the name and think it's been taken down now. Saw it about 3 months ago by chance as an advert popped up. It included mobile phone numbers and skype addresses. Thought it strange at the time to include numbers.
