PHUKET:-- Many Thais will have a three-day weekend as the nation commemorates the second anniversary of the passing of the deeply revered late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Rama 9 of the Chakri dynasty, who reigned over the Kingdom for seven decades.

This Saturday (Oct 13), marking two years since King Bhumibol passed away, is a public holiday and will see many activities throughout the country held to honour the King’s great achievements, and his love and devotion for his people.

With the holiday falling on a Saturday, next Monday (Oct 15) will be the substitution day public holiday.

Worth to notice...????

Quote

Although the sale of alcohol is not prohibited by law, police traditionally encourage people to refrain from drinking alcohol on the day as a sign of respect and in honour of King Bhumibol.

Bars in Patong, in particular, have been asked to be respectful, but left the option of whether or not to close or to serve alcohol over the long weekend. (See story here.)

OMG, Thailand has a lot of public holidays.......must be like 20 or so?

By law, Thais are entitled 13 paid days off per year in lieu of public holidays, plus a week's annual holiday with pay after working for the same employer for a year.

Of course, many - possibly a majority - routinely work six days a week, with only Sunday off.

Rama 9 always in our heart????

Might be good if one works for the government or a company that pays you for official holiday time off
