Unsure about rental payment

Featured Replies

Paying the monthly rent for my apartment; I understand that I pay electricity, water, etc., for the previous month according to actual usage, but how about the actual rent for the apartment: do I pay, say on the 5th, for the current month (up to the 31st) or for the previous month?

(My partner and I cannot agree on that, and it's important in regards to the money I paid earlier for deposit and 'last rent'.)

I think it depends on terms and conditions written on your rental agreement. For my apartment, I need to pay two months rent as a deposit plus the first month rent paid upfront before I could move in.  Thus, three months rent is needed initially. I will get the two months rent deposit back at the end when I leave.

If you are lucky

Rent worldwide is always in advance. If moving in date is mid month some will ask for 6 weeks for first payment,  others are happy to collect on anniversary  date
