Is it a good idea if wanting to work in Thailand or anywhere else in Asia such as Singapore or Kuala Lumpur to apply with companies from the U.S? And then get sent over? Are Engineering and Engineering management jobs readily sought after? Thanks for any advice.

:D to :o

Unless you have a significant local (Asia) network, you're going to find it tough going at the beginning. If you can get an overseas posting with a US company you stand a chance of building a network and keeping employed. That's exactly how I started 12 years ago in Korea (but with a UK company), now a happy independent consultant based in sunny Thailand.

What branch of engineering are you in?

Try Brunel (Thailand). I have several friends who are employed from there directly..They are a very solid outfit. Good luck.. http://www.brunel-uk.com/thailand.htm

I am a UK mechanical engineer and worked as a graduate mechanical engineer for nearly a year with a medium international consultancy outfit specialising in water/wastewater. I spent about 6 months looking from the UK and I didn't have any luck. Pretty much all the engineering jobs in the LOS seem to be in the oil and gas industry. I think the best bet is registering with an international job recruitment company. The only other options are searching the net or investigating which companies in your field of expertise have outfits out in the LOS.

Best of luck to you.

I'm a Electrical Engineer with 12+ years experience. I am a German national, currently living and working in the US. I'm a US resident. I currently work as a Technical Patent advisor for a Patent law firm. Helping attorneys determine Patent infringement, work with clients for design arounds etc. Kinda like a consultant expert.

Not sure if something like this could be done in Thailand or Singapore. Yes I may try a international placement agency. Any leads on some international recruiting agencies? Thanks.

I am a Contracts Manager for a Thai Company specializing in the Oil and Gas Industy. I applied for many jobs here and in other parts of Asia. I got VERY lucky. The CEO where I work is a guy I worked with 18 years ago. Sheer Coincidence.

Been here now nearly three months and I love it :o O&G is a different world altogether, all high spec and cutting corners is a big no no!!
