A Thai tourist who had fallen from a cliff near the famous Roi Wa Waterfall was rescued in a two-hour stretcher hike on Wednesday morning after spending a rainy night in Khao Laem National Park.

Identified as Nipon Wongthap, 46, the tourist has a broken right leg and suffered a head injury after falling down the 40-foot cliff within the park Kanchanburi’s Sangkhla Buri district.

He was located on Tuesday night but could not be removed due to darkness and rain. Rescuers provided first aid, along with food and drinking water, and his three friends remained with him until the morning extraction, said Colonel Sarawuth Chaisit of the 29th Infantry Division’s Lat Ya Special Taskforce.

It was his second night stuck on the mountain after he fell on Monday.

Rope-rapelling troopers reached him, and carried him on a stretcher down the mountain and out of the woods in a two-hour journey that ended at 11am.

He was then taken by helicopter to Sangkhla Buri Hospital for treatment later, Sarawuth said.

Another example of someone falling at a waterfall and other people

having to spend time and risk to rescue him. I am glad that there are

rescue crews around that do this kind of activity.
