Maybe things have changed. I do not know, as I am not and "out and about" type lad.
I rather like Bully's Pub around Soi 2,3. I think they do a great burger, and the Happy Hour is good in my memory, though I do not mind paying a little extra for a pint of better brew.
I would have to agree with some of the other posters. Loosen up a little and enjoy your birthday, for Pete's sake, unless you are such a cheap Charlie that spending five baht breaks your heart. ????
Off the subject a bit, but people often refer to Sukhumvit as though it is some unique destination. I live about 150 meters off of Sukhumvit in Bang Sare. Isn't it a bit like saying "There are no good bars left on Main Street."?

Hamburgers and craft beer?  Perhaps, I should have mentioned I am straight.

Mommy gifts him 400 k and then he spends it on 7/11 beers and buses.

OP was never going to bust a few k on a hooker. He just needed to convince himself which he did subconsciously and of course is now moping about it emoji17.png

A few thousand was more like my budget...4 beers at 100+2 lady drink ripoffs at 170+4500 for "services"..quite a bit more than a few thousand.

A disappointed sex tourist, so sorry to hear it.

I always suspect that one someone need to to make it clear Thier clothes are clean, they don't have a hell of alot of other stuff going for them.

Having been around here for twenty years, I wish that I had 500 Baht for every time a foreigner walked by me with his just picked up laundry that smelled like a living nativity scene.  And the one thing that has been consistent with the girls over the years is they hate body odor almost as much as putting your shoes on the bed.  I suppose they don't go out with Arab or Indian for religious reasons?

Ain't much when it needs to last a year.

If it did, it would still be more than double the average Thai worker's salary (without the mountain of debt), and more than the median household income as well.  1000 is too much, 5 million is not enough...quite a few still need to learn the mentality of these ladies.

I dont care if lower Sukhumvit is not what it used to be, whatever that means. I rarely go out down there but when i do i always have a good night. Head out with your mates, beers, pool, 'banter' with them, other guests, ladies whatever. If you cannot have a good night out down Sukhumvit even now its not the 'old days' there is more wrong with you than anything else.

There are two types of people:  those on a budget; and those who will be on a budget..may I ask what is your budget for a night out of drinks and pool in that area?

I think it would be easier for you to tell what your budget is TBH.

Maybe. But TBH, there ARE no good bars left on Main Street.

If you can't have a good time in Bangkok/Sukhumvit, you're either not trying hard enough or you're just a miserable bugger.

I've heard that even a dead man can still get laid on the bottom-end of the Sukh.

If one might be disappointed with the activity of the "new" lower Sukhumvit, bear in mind that BKK is rife with numerous avenues that are still famed for their nightlife - just have to know where to go.

Great, since no one here has mentioned one decent happy hour, please enlighten us.  And the warm beers at the Train Market didn't really hit the spot, in the blazing heat.  Seems like 82 years of refrigeration in LOS and they would know how to use it.

It's great that you and your partner split cab fare...but TBH, the VIP Mercedes would not have added to the lack of excitement..and you can't drink in them, anymore, so what is the point.  The one nice lady, who didn't look like she has had a mile of manhood, was on that #2 bus...it was on my way home, too.

I guess it would be the best for you to get a bottle of the cheapest staff in 7/11 or a mom and pop shop. Drown the bottle and after that you won't think too much anymore about happy hours. Then buy a couple of tequilas for the girls and enjoy the night. If you still don't enjoy it then just don't go out anymore. The fun is over in your life - if you ever had any fun.

Why would I do that when I have my box of Monte Cristos and liter of Jameson?  Was hoping for at least some entertainment as good as high school days in Georgetown...not even expecting anything close to four years at a country club uni, six years in Berkeley, years by the Mexican border (10 dollar liters of Cuervo), not to mention prices on recreation way to low too mention to novices.  Oh, and year and years in a wonderful country called Thailand, where pretty girls would commonly say "where you go?". party central has turned into sin tax, mob ripoff for nanny staters.  Guess the Canadians and most of the Europeans are familiar with it, if not mostly responsible for bringing it here, and let's not forget the "genderless generation."  Let me see..should I do a voddie Coke or a nice Chang on ice, or simply just puke in disgust? Many prisons have a better menu than that..and don't get me started on wine ripoffs.

So long as you're happy, that's all that matters. Nothing beats a positive attitude

The Kiwi Bar on Soi 8 has a decent HH where you can get pints for 99 Baht or small bottles for 75.

Chequers on Soi 8 has decent food and 100 Baht beers.

There's loads of decent places to go.

It all depends on what you want.

How much you want to drink, do you want any extra's etc.

Name one good happy hour.

Most all the bars on Soi 4 have happy hour from 10am until 8 or 9 pm around 80 or 90 baht for a small thai beer. Country Roads in Soi Cowboy have happy hour from opening to 9pm all drinks half price. I live in Chiang Mai and know this. It sounds like you went out to find something to moan about. Soi 4 has plenty of girls but you need to go into the bar not just walk on the street.

Thailand can and does get old but it's still probably better than wherever you came from in the US.  Sounds like you (OP) need to find a new spot.  It may not be in SE Asia either.

You ever try Panama, or something like that?  If you find the change in venue is pretty awesome, no doubt there will be some old hands in the bar there saying the place sucks now, pining for "good old days".  It happens.
