Hi,

I've posted a few questions on this site and never had one reply...is it me????

Does anyone know of anywhere nice (mid-range) to stay in Maenam.?

Thanks,

It may help if you mention your budget, rather than mid-range.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for your replies....I feel all warm now!!!

Yeah I've looked on the websites I think Baan Fah or the Florist look quite good. Anybody had any good/bad experiences, as the reviews seem to vary (but hey, I guess that's why we're all different!).

I'm looking between up to a max of £70 per nite really.

Also, as we're on a roll now...can anyone recommend a good fish restuarant in the village?

Thanks guys n gals.

Are you sure you mean £70 per night? You can get fab accommodation for £15+ on Samui!

That's quite a price you have in mind and a lot of money according to Thai standards.

My advice ?

Do not prebook; or just 1 or 2 nights,

Have a stroll along the beach once you've arrived and find a nice accommodation yourself. Negotiate about the price !

Restaurants ? dozens of them, but Bophut (Fishermans' village) also has quite a few nice and tasty restaurants.

Q: why do you want to stay especially in Maenam ?

70 pound a night ????????

You could probably buy Maenam for that.

As said 15 - 20 more than enough for somewhere nice.

Dear LB,

Not sure how long you already reside on Samui, but buy all of Maenam for 70 Quid?

Santiburi, a resort located in maenam, cheapest Villa is 19.000,-Baht per night (Internet rate) plus all rates are subject to 10% Service Charge, 1% Provincial Tax and 7% Value added tax. You may be able to find deals for this resort online, but not for 70 Quid.

Maybe time to re-evaluate your knowledge about the local resorts, with all due respect.

The reason for the £70 price tag (and please note that is max), is that I am taking my 61 year old mother to Koh Pha Ngan. She's been very ill and obviously I'm concerned re the travelling etc, so just wanted to stay in Mae Nam for 1 or 2 nites max, before I take her to Koh Pha Ngan (where the standard of accomodation is nowhere near that of Samui - although I know that is changing on a monthly visit (I come to Thailand twice a year since 96 - and its amazing the change each time). So thought I'd break her in gently......

I know its a lot and you can get a good hotel in BKK for that, but as its for 1 or 2 nites just want to get her acclimatised.

Thanks.

Hi,

The reason for Maenam...is its peaceful and pretty and also I dont like Chaweng and want to be near the pier (Big Bhudda) to get the ferry in the morning to KPN.

Intrepid,

Once more, try Paradise Beach Resort or try Zazen, that is a very nice resort as well, probably in your price range.

You'll still need wheels to get to the village. I've tried staying in places that cost, I find you only find ppl that are boring to talk to, if they even want to. But a "good" middel class resort is better in a all-around scenero, but we are all different. Have a nice stay.

You might want to consider to stay in Bophut in an upscale resort or in the village itself; would be nice for your Mom as well and close to Big Buddha. But there's a ferry right in Bophut as well.

My dear Limbos.

That was only a tounge in cheek remark questioning the need to pay 5.000 Baht a night for a room when you can get something just as good for 2,000 a night.

Actually my Sister is doing a tour of Thailand next month ending with a week at the Paradise Beach resort. She did this so she can come and visit me. I went along and had a look at it and it did look very nice. Way out of my price. :o:D :D

LB,

That's why I recommended Paradise to the OP, it's a good and decent resort.

Unfortunately 70 quid won't buy you a lot of anything nowadays.

Kettle,

I was more referrring to anything, as in anything, rather than referring to rooms etc.

Are you talking about a privat, serviced villa monthly rent 4.500,-Baht?????? Wow..............

"Are you talking about a privat, serviced villa monthly rent 4.500,-Baht?????? Wow..............'

Seems im wrong. Just did a quick search to pull a few links for you but cant find any serviced villas for that dough. I am sure one of the CoCo villas was only 4500 per day so based it on that. They are not though. Seems I am waaaay out actualy, more like 10,000 per day upwards.

My room I am renting in the village in Khon Kaen when I am up here costs 800 (eight hundred) Baht a month. Concrete floor and Thai toilet, but I bought a farang one and got it fitted.

Not relevant to the topic but I though you might like to know.

LB, you are realy embracing the whole 'real Thai' thing aint you pal? If you dont mind my asking, why dont you splash out 3/4 grand a month while your pad is being built? You could get a veritable shang ri laa in KK for that.

Cocrete floor? Thai toilet? Madness dear boy!

heya, I know of two nice mid range places near Big Buddha pier in BoPhut, not exactly Mae Nam but near enough. Samui Mermaid and Nara Garden. About 1000bht night for decent enough rooms with TV and Aircon and hot shower. If you can get the ones on the beach front then I think they're nice to stay in. Mermaid has a swimming pool too. There are nicer places around, better room standards etc but if your looking 4 somethin around the 1000 mark then Ive always been happy staying in these 2 places. . Breakfast included too but ive never eaten in these places, only stayed for night or two b4 flying out.

Another place whcih i have been recommended is Peace resort in BoPhut, it looks lovely but I think its little bit more expensive than the two mentioned above www.peaceresort.com

Hope you find what your looking for :o
