Queen: Bohemian Rhapsody film review

It’s been a long time coming, but the Freddie Mercury biopic is finally here… and it’s mostly glorious.

Every bit as witty and charming as the man himself, Bohemian Rhapsody covers the iconic frontman’s assimilation into the Queen lineup (replacing Tim Staffell) in 1970 until their triumphant performance at Live Aid in 1985, all the while focusing on Freddie’s journey of self-discovery.

Sacha Baron Cohen was originally lined up to play the superstar - he apparently abandoned ship after disagreements about the direction the plot was heading - but it’s hard to see anyone putting on a better display than Rami Malek.

Capturing the singer’s awkward mannerisms, his showmanship and his swagger, Malek looks at home as Freddie Mercury.

That reminds me of this video.

Be warned, you have to be drunk to enjoy it.

A must see when released.

Apparently Malik is brilliant.

I suppose we'll get the usual old farts posting to say they've never heard of them.

Iconic band I followed throughout the 70,s , 80,s and on. Five times watched them live, an experience never to forget. Looking forward to this movie.

I read this article yesterday, interesting.

I have to admit I didn't know that Freddy was born in Zanzibar.

And moved to ZZB as religious refugees from India as at the time they were getting a hard time in India.  They were Zoroastrians and joined a large number who had moved out of India.  But Freddy went back to India to attend school & stayed with an Aunt until the family moved to U.K.

AND his family were actually Ethnic Iranians living in India.  They left Iran because zoroastrians were not getting an easy time there since it became Muslin.
