Saudi crown prince vows to bring Khashoggi killers to justice

Featured Replies

Now it's reported by Sky News that the remains - body parts - of Khashoggi have been "suggested" (see 1:40) found in the garden of the Saudi Counsel General's home. His face was disfigured.

Trump - any conclusions?

All these countries who are huge weapon suppliers are refraining from tough comments. What is this world coming to?

  • On the plus side, if there can even be one from this atrocity, after MbS killing all those involved in the operation which he ordered he may have a tougher time recruiting a hit squad in the future?

It is when the US traditionally held highest moral grounds for human rights and freedom of the press.

But not now which is a sad state of affairs for the US.

I wouldn't know that the US held such "highest moral grounds" other than as imagery or a handy construct. It is not that US policies on selling arms to SA were significantly different under previous administrations. And generally speaking, most countries dealing with SA were happy enough to turn a blind eye to Saudi transgressions. Once more, until it is made clear what Merkel's move amounts to, there's no reason to label it as something it may well fall short of.

All tyrants need to perform a particularly abject and revolting crime to establish their power. It is an atavism as much as a political requirement.

Most Arab potentates have been feeding their populations for years on “fake news” and “alternative facts”.

MBS and his latest bloody "incident" misgovernance make it worth remembering

That might be, but that's not what the article you linked was about. The angle pushed in that one was more to do with a Western-oriented point of view, and maybe more accurately a left-wing one, at that.

Sad to say but the reaction of the western world is, realistically, unimportant to them due to the economic pressures they can bring to bear in terms of oil and arms sales.  Eventually things will die down.  A few hissy fits and diplomatic expulsions and the west will claim they have made their point.  Further action explained as being too damaging to home economy and jobs as DT said earlier.

Sinister to say they are also quite pleased that the news is out in order that other critics, both inside and outside their country, will definitely think twice before carrying on.

Very similar to the attempted murder of Skripol in Salisbury.  Their reach is long and they will get you if you annoy them too much.
