The alleged mastermind behind the gangland style execution of a British man in Pattaya has been arrested in Spain.

Toby James Nelhams, 45, was held on an international arrest warrant issued by the Thai authorities after he landed at Malaga airport.

A spokesman for National Police in Malaga told the Daily Mail: “National Police have held a British man aged 45 on an international arrest warrant at Malaga Airport.

“The warrant had been issued by authorities in Thailand who suspect him of ordering the murder of a compatriot.

“The fugitive, whose initials are TJN and was born in Islington, was caught when he tried to enter Spain through Malaga Airport.

“Officers established his true identity after checks and confirmed he was a wanted man and he was arrested and taken to a police station.

“According to the arrest warrant, he is wanted for allegedly ordering the killing of a compatriot on January 24 2017, by two people who shot the victim in the province of Chonburi which is home to Pattaya.”

Nelhams is suspected of masterminding the murder of Tony Kenway, 39, who was shot dead in his Porsche sports car outside the Sanit Sports Club in the Mabprachan Lake area of Pattaya in January 2017. The murder was captured on CCTV.

Two other men suspected of being involved in the murder remain at large.

South African Abel Bonito Caldeira is wanted for carrying out the shooting, while British born Miles Dicken Turner is believed to have driven the getaway motorbike. Both men fled to Cambodia in the hours following the attack and their whereabouts remain unknown.

Father of four Kenway ran his own fraud operation from Thailand, targeting OAPs in the UK and Australia.

At the time of his murder, Thai authorities had begun deportation proceedings again millionaire Kenway for working illegally in Thailand.

Thai police said he was the kingpin of a ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ style operation.

Nelhams is believed to have been a former business partner of Kenway.

“Tony Kenway had a call centre that employed foreign staff and made calls to Australia and Britain. He had two different companies that were involved in the scam, Thai police said last year.

“The aim was to get people abroad to give their life savings. It was not small amounts.

“He was strong and pushed them for big investments. He promised them a big win. Like winning the lottery.

“The people who paid the money lost out. It was big amounts, millions and millions of Thai baht that many different people paid to him.'

In February, Nelhams was arrested in Cambodia and held in the notorious Prey Sar jail where he was awaiting trial on charges of fraud and entering and working in the country illegally.

In September, Phnom Penh Municipal Court found Nelhams guilty of fraud but dropped charges of entering Cambodia illegally and working without a passport or work permit.

The time Nelhams served while he was awaiting trial counted towards his sentence.

Two sources in Cambodia, independent of each other, both of whom are familiar with the case told Thaivisa that Nelhams was released from Prey Sar in October 2017.

His whereabouts between October 2017 and his arrest this weekend in Spain have not been reported.

It is understood that Nelhams has already appeared at an extradition hearing in Madrid, although the result of the hearing is not yet known.

So the Cambodians had him in custody and Thailand didn't seek his extradition BEFORE his release?

This is the guy suspected of killing Kenway, not ripping people off. Kenway was the one supposedly doing the ripping off.

Very true.  “The aim was to get people abroad to give their life savings. It was not small amounts.

Apparently a public service done that saved many others from being ripped off by this person!

I wonder where Kenway's wife is now? She was beautiful.

Sounds like Kenway deserved what he got the scamming prick...no sympathy from me. They should send Nelhams to India and do some cleaning up over there.

Quote from OP. Nelhams is believed to have been a former business partner of Kenway. Says it all.

They were both involved in scamming Old Age Pensioners out of their life savings.

It's seems they had a falling out - perhaps one of them was scamming the other as well as the old folks.

Kenway was facing deportation. Nelhams arranged the killing of Kenway.

2 fewer cockroaches running around - the world seems a touch brighter today. I suspect that the people who were scammed won't see any of their money back though.

Agreed, it was a rhetorical question really, we all know the score... unfortunately.

Cambodia has less strict extradition treaties than other countries

Kenway doesn't seem a great loss to Thailand or the world....a fraudster scamming pensioners. I wonder what will happen to his ill-gotten gains?

Not unless the rounds are on the house in some of the "Irish" and "British" pubs in Bangkok.

The Brits will not allow him to be extradited to Thailand as they have the death penalty in that country.

probably gone to

Thai police and the widow

I not believe that Spain extrade him to Thailand.
1. Because Thailand has death penalty.

2. Thailand must show enough proofs to Spain that him ordered the killings. Without the killers or his own  confession it will be very difficult.

Im not understanding that the pensioners losing money of their life savings to these scammers, were they selling land or property in Thailand?

Oh really? I utilise a state of the art salt water pool where I am. Each to their own I suppose, - you might consider getting a Tetnus jab before swimming with rusty prams and over dosed crack heads.

Here's to swimmin with bow legged wimmin.

No such thing.  The local police have arrested him on the back of a 'Red Notice' and will be held with a view to extradition.

Try understanding many  of those were elderly people whose thinking is often impaired and they are extremely vulnerable and trusting.
