I’ve taken a single 2mg pill once every month or two (on days with tension knotted neck), 5mg ones very infrequently.

About a year ago, BPH changed to the extended release capsule and even a 5mg cap doesn’t do the trick. To get the 2mg pill effect I’d have to take many capsules; unwise, I know.

Are there hospitals in Pattaya where I can get tablets?

If a doctor there agrees to prescribe it, you should be able to get at any hospital.

I'd try Pattaya International Hospital first, will need to see an ortho specialist there

If you get copies of your records from BPH and bring along it will help. Basically the only problem you face is being suspected of drug seeking for recreational purposes. Records documenting your condition and showing infrequent use will help.

I had exactly this problem about 10 years ago at Bangkok Phuket Hospital.

I had an accident by falling over a shopping trolley (I was pushing the trolley down a ramp and there was a hole in the pathway. The RHS front wheel went into the hole and I went over the trolley and landed on my right hip).

The pain was considerable so a friend took me to the hospital.  The doctors there couldn't diagnose the problem even though I was obviously in severe pain.  They openly told me I was a 'druggie' looking for a fix.  I was admitted, after they worked out I had medical cover. The next morning a pain specialist came to see me.  Within 5 minutes of examining me he placed a morphine injection into my hip area.  At least I could walk again.

It turned out the fall had crushed my sciatica hense the pain right down my leg.  My insurance company (Australian) put me on with their nurse and after explaining the symptoms she said I had typical sciatica damage symptoms.  Why the doctors at the hospital couldn't diagnose this considering all the x-rays and scans they took I don't know.  I now think they didn't want to loose face by admitting they were wrong about me being a 'druggie'.

I still believe that when they found out I had private medical insurance they ordered everything imaginable.  Three nights there and the bill was well in excess of 150k baht.  My insurance paid it however I was not allowed out of the hospital until the money was forwarded.

If you need regular medication I believe that you should get your doctor to itemise what meds you are on and why you are on them.

Sorry for the rant.

Unfortunately this sterotyope exists and there is reason for it, there are foreigners who come to Thailand and engage in "recreational" drug seeking from hospitals and pharmacies -- so much so that many pharmacy staff stiffen and go on the defensive at the very sight of a foreigner coming in as they assume you'll be wanting a controlled substance. I've had pharmacy staff tell me "hospital only" before I even told them what the (innocuous, OTC) drug was I wanted to buy....because in their minds "all" farangs are after controlled substances.

Very, very annoying, but there it is.

Pharmacy in Jomtien sells diazapam no prescription.  I wanted something to help with withdrawals from quitting smoking he gave these tabs I didnt know what they were at the time, but they sure helped.  I remember one night I had a quiet beer with the tablet to have a early sleep and ended up on the podium at Mixx nightclub in walking street.
