Orbital sander?

Featured Replies

Has anyone seen cheap orbital sanders for sale at Home Works, Home Pro etc? Something like a Makita that takes half sheets of sandpaper. Haven't had a chance to look yet, but can't say I've ever noticed them before.

Maktec brand from large Makita dealers. One on North Pattaya Road and Chonburi Bypass Road.

Cheers, but it doesn't have to be specifically a Makita. Probably only use it once to sand a verandah railing.

Maktec is the cheap end of Makita range with price somewhere between full Makita and Chinese brand X.

If you want real cheap there are power tool sellers on markets like Mini Siam at night and Naklua on Sunday. Don't know much about places like Home Pro but Global and Hardware house carry a range of cheap no brand x power tools.

Just a suggestion, if its a small job, employ a Thai,

preferably a recommended person, may even be

the cheaper option.  If you DIY it, don't leave it

unfinished for more than 10 years, like I do.

A Thai will just paint over what's there, flaky paint and all.

Thanks. I'm wondering whether a palm sander might suit my need better?

Depends what your general use is ?

Palm is smaller surface area but better for smaller pieces of work.

It's basically for a wooden railing that has a  lot of uprights.

There are also those that are round, but I think you have to buy the special sandpaper discs to fit. Looks like that Stanley model is the same.

You can also get the smaller models in a triangle type shape which are hand for corners etc.

I like the Stanley kit for the 2yr guarantee.

Round/ tri-shape /sheets etc are all easy enough to get hold of.You can even buy 100mm x the meter.

What is the sheet with the holes?

I believe it allows/helps for dust extraction.

You dont HAVE to make holes, or have any, but it does stop the sanding pad from clogging up with dust so it keeps working, and allows for extraction of dust if attached to a vacuum cleaner. the holes make for a better finish and more efficient sanding.(IMHO)

Thats the last option. DIY if you can, or just leave it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It will cost you more.

They will brake something more. ( sorley mister it no good)

Not finish the job.

All will be sub standard.

You will look at it after they have finished and say, i could have done that better.

I'm sure there are some good trades people out there,

but they are like rocking horse shit.   Very rare :giggle:

Ps Lazada for cheap sander, all on line, and delivered.
