They also always seem to have the longest lines for check in. Coupled with immigration lines being busy, it can be stressful. 

It is also not just in Bangkok as I had a similar check-in experience in Haneda.

Qatar, Etihad and Emirates usually have the cheapest tickets from my place. But from experience such as this, I tend to favor the other 2 if difference in price is not significant.

Too bad as their in-flight service and the Doha airport for stopover is quite good.

Flew with them Penang to Paris, return flight, upon checking in at Charles De Gaul airport for return flight, wouldn’t let the missus n kid (thai pp holders) on unless they had flight booked out of Malaysia, said Penang immigration would send us back to Paris (nonsense) last minute rush to buy tickets from Penang to BKK which of course we didn’t need, Qatar Airlines forget to mention this when we initially booked the tickets from Penang to Paris.... almost missed the flight due to their nonsense
