Popular Post jvs
It is all in the title!I got scammed on Facebook. Now before a lot of people are going to react and say facebook is all bad and a wast of time let me tell you in Thailand a lot of companies do not have a website but just use a facebook page.Normally it works very well. I do not really post on facebook but i am a member of a few groups of things that interests me. I have bought and sold several things without any problems. Last week i reacted to a guy who had something for sale and we made a deal. I had to make a deposit which is quit normal and the guy was supposed to deliver. He never did but came up with several excuses.I started to dig a little bit and found out he is on different pages doing the same thing. I know there is probably not a lot i can do about it but i hope i can get some suggestions here. I have his real name also and a copy of his bankbook,he claims he is from Sattahip. It is just a small amount of money but i hate being ripped off in this way. No need to tell me it is my own fault, that does not help me a lot. By the way,he is not Thai. Popular Post BestB
The only thing you can do is go to police and file a report. If its small amount of money, they may not act, but if a number of people will report the same person they will act. Saying that, you could be lucky and they may take action. Contacting tourist police may not be a bad idea, as you know lately they have been extremely pro active. 6

Why nothing? Plenty of reports of people being scammed on line, reporting to police and police taking actions. If OP has personal details then its even easier for police to take action

richard_smith237
As you made an online Bank Transaction the Police should be able to get access (with a Warrant) to his Account, his address and phone number (if he was able to register his Bank account with his real details). Thus - it pretty much depends what its worth to do you resolve this. Unless you have connections you may well find yourself 'donating' more to persuade a Policeman who is in a position of sufficient power to do something about this.
Popular Post CharlieH
Police report as suggested. The amount will probably dictate if anything will follow, but as mentioned already, if you are not the only one to report this guy then who knows what may follow. You could also encourage others via facebook to do the same. Bottom line: Report it.
dabhand
It's been reported that Big Joke has an official facebook page where such scams can be reported and maybe action taken. Likely that the chance of catching a scamming foreigner could appeal to him. Just be wary that the guy is not connected in a way that could possibly backfire. Another possible way back could be to string him along and waste his time using a false name and give him the impression he is in line to make a lot of dough on a sale that never quite happens. A bit like some of the 419 scam responses (e.g. continual wrong account numbers when you advise of non existent transfers to the guy).

Before we get too excited then we might want to wait for confirmation of the amount scammed. Okay, any amount scammed is not welcome but is very much relevant before we pull the sabres. Popular Post KittenKong
My suggestion is to report it to the regular police, the Tourist police, the Office of Consumer Protection and "Big Joke's" hotline. And if it really is a foreigner doing it, report it to Immigration too. They really seem to enjoy going after foreign crooks. The only reason these *!$%! get away with these scams is because few people complain. I personally dont care what nationality they are, or how much money is involved: they should be locked up and punished regardless. 8

MW72
Surely this is a crime that falls under the computer crimes act if ever there was one. If they can charge that poor farmer for this then the guy who ripped the OP off has no chance. Now the OP just needs a connected lawyer and a bent copper and this guy is going away for at least 10 years. ????

Whyamiandwhatamidoinghere
Do as the locals do and take his information and make a police report at the police station for your area. That's all you can do. I refuse to be scammed out of my hard earned money by any individual or entity.
