Now if only we could get rid of the UK and European liberal/socialist, white trash, government mooching, alcoholic. sex tourist/pedophile, opportunist parasites! The UK and Europe are the real problem here in Pattaya and around Thailand... Believe that!!!!!! ???? ???????? ???? ????????

LOL. Without the "sex tourists", Pattaya wouldn't exist as a place anyone would want to go to. It was just a beach with a fishing village before it became mongers paradise.

Those that ignore history are doomed to make silly posts!

I know people who are here 12 months a year, and they depend on high season income, they are not doing very well.

I can't sympathise with them. Anyone farang that "invests" in LOS is just waiting to fail, and that has been known for decades, certainly as long as I had been holidaying in Thailand. Like they say, the way to make a small fortune in LOS is to start with a large one.

I once styed in a guest house owned by a Brit. He was an idiot and had no idea how to run a business in Thailand. My best experiences have been in establishments run by Thais.

You put down Pattaya for 1 reason only - you lack means to live here.

Good! It's the small things that make me happy ????

I had the choice of anywhere to live in LOS for a year, and rejected Pattaya in favour of Chiang Mai.

I note that you didn't address what I said in the post you quoted, but made a personal attack on me instead, when you know zero about me, other than my complaints about potholes, and even that is wrong, as my complaints were about the pavements.

Says much about you.

I think I know a bit more about the subject than you, with your 695 posts.

BTW, I used to live in Pattaya for a long time, in addition to many, many visits before and after.

Yes, I get that but the invasion is complete, you can't get away from them. Went for a swim and lunch in the Areca Lodge last week. Mostly farangs with their farang wives, a few farangs with their Thai "girlfriends. Large group of young Indians spread round the pool and started acting like complete idiots. Really annoying. Most people, us included, packed up and left the pool area.

Sorry but I don't live in Pattaya anymore so I don't know.  What do young Indians do to act like complete idiots?

So then, from bad beach to no beach.

There are a couple of beaches next to reservoirs in Chiang Mai which have most of the attributes of a beach apart from salt water. A better option for us however is somewhere like Mountain Float which is a series of buildings on rafts that float out in the middle of the expansive Mae Ngud reservoir, a great place to go and eat and relax for the day when the weather is hot.

there are definitely more indians coming to pattaya, than in previous years.

i cant understand why they mostly walk on the roads, then cross without looking-- very dangerous for motorcyclists.

Because that is how it works in India, they expect to be beeped at.

CM is a s-hole because of the smoke and immigration.  Pattaya because of the tourists.  Pattaya has better food and shopping so that decides it for me.

A good choice for us, the more tourists stay away, the better the place becomes, it's a win win scenario.

This was forcasted 3 years ago on the internet, no one believed it would happen, now this number 1 family city is empty, the bar owners etc. etc are really worried, I can see a lot of them crashing if it stays this way much longer.

In my view, it's been crashing for at least 12 months. More bars closing than opening for some time now.

If I had a dime for every time I've read those words on TVF over the past 15 years I could retire to Cap Ferrat!

It does seem like those predictions have come true though .

Pattaya has been in decline since its heyday in the 1980's/90's

A decline over 40 years, how exactly do you measure that? The earlier poster suggested it had been forecast three years ago, another now suggests it has been in decline since the Vietnam war ended, everyone seems to be willing Pattaya to decline and justify the current headlines.

Chinese don't do bars, Pattaya is a bar city, no wonder the bar owners are crying, Oh well.

Once again, posters don't seem to understand Thailands ability to reinvent itself, when one country stops sending tourists, another comes along, (except they may not all be bar hounds), we've seen these things repeatedly over the years!

It depends on your perspective as a tourist. For me, much more high quality accommodation now. More choice of quality restaurants now. We now have comfortable, air conditioned bars/clubs.

We hear a lot about the state of the roads/sidewalks now but was far worse before. Anyone travel from Bangkok to Pattaya in the 80s/90s? Much better now with modern motorway and improvements to Sukhumvit on your arrival.

Edit: Forgot to mention the shopping malls! 555

I was referring to Pattaya as a sex tourist destination , but I suppose that Pattaya has been expanding in other areas ,

Even as a sex tourist destination, there have been great improvements.

Soi 6 is the den of iniquity in Pattaya, but has moved with the times.

I won't mention the name of it, but one large bar in particular, now has air con, really comfortable seating, a jolly American host and a good range of Burbons to choose from. What could be better than lounging on a luxurious leather settee, listening to good music, with a good Burbon in one hand and a beautiful, attentive Thai girl in the other? No better way to spend an evening on this planet.

Hmm. All sounds very bad - but the Demographics are even worse, potentially much worse! For those concerned about the influx of Asian males in particular, but it applies too to China and parts of the Middle East...

20 years of 'population management' by in particular India and China, with official 'one child' or cultural 'boy child' policies has resulted in a surplus of maybe 200 Million males with no chance of marriage, and in conservative societies, little chance of even getting laid. Socially stratified marriage traditions (esp China) simply add to the problem. Thailand's 'reputation' makes it a beacon of opportunity for these guys as they pass though adulthood and see the limited opportunities before them. Anyone with the price of a low-cost-carrier ticket and 2 brain cells will be looking over here.

Thailand's long slide downhill as a Tourist destination for comparatively wealthy Westerners is well documented and really beyond doubt (or denial). But it isn't over yet. Not by a long chalk. Ground Zero is still a long way down.

A friend of mine, who visits Thailand annually, and has done so for the past 15 years, was pulled aside by immigration, and two agents spent 30 minutes asking him dozens of questions, just last week. It made him very uncomfortable. Why was this necessary? Sure he has a few extensions in his passport. But he is a good guy, a law abiding man, and is quite wealthy. He brings alot to the table. Thailand desperately needs more tourists like him. Thailand is completely missing the mark. There are so many things they are doing wrong, from a standpoint of both tourism, and behavior toward ex-pats, at the government level. They are destroying the economy with this foolishness. This administration is the worst in a very long time. They must go. Appointing the biggest joke to head immigration was a decision that is ten levels beyond boneheaded. Dumb and dumber.

To the current administration. Get out. Get out now. You are not effective or competent. You are not wanted. You are not popular. Get out!

Ant time a Foreigner visits another Country , its quite possible that immigration will ask him a few questions .

Why do you feel that your friend should be allowed to travel the world without any I.O.s asking him any questions ?

How desperate would you characterize Thailand's desperation for your wealthy friend?
