Report Anutin Orders Bomb Shelter Survey on Thai-Cambodian Border
Picture courtesy of Siam Rath Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has issued an urgent directive to provincial governors of seven Thailand-Cambodia border provinces, calling for a thorough assessment and potential enhancement of bomb shelters to ensure public safety. In response to recent tensions and a skirmish at Chong Bok in Ubon Ratchathani on 28th May 2025, Anutin instructed immediate action to review existing bomb shelters along the border. This order follows a site visit to the province on 8th June 2025 to evaluate the implementation of key policies. The Interior Ministry has sent urgent letters to the governors of Ubon Ratchathani, Si Sa Ket, Surin, Buriram, Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi, and Trat. The directive requests a detailed inspection to determine: Total number of bomb shelters available. Number of shelters in good working condition. Number of damaged shelters needing budget support for repairs. Requirements for constructing additional shelters, including specific locations and necessary budget. Governors are required to report their findings to the Ministry of Interior by 12 p.m. on 10th June 2025 to facilitate necessary actions. Adapted by ASEAN Now from Siam Rath 2025-06-10 -
