The ABV is the percentage of the total volume of liquid. So in a 330 ml can of 4.9 % beer there is, guess what,16.47 ml of alcohol whereas if the ale is only 4.8 there are 15.84 ml, a difference of 0.63 ml of naughty stuff. I've sometimes left more than that in the bottle. -
