That's what I'd expect the rapist's defence to state. I'm appalled!

was she raped?

do you have medical information that proves she was raped?

Did you ever consider that she didn't know she going to be raped at that point?  He could have been offering to get her home, or take her to the police station, or to a taxi, who knows but I am sure he didn't say "come with me for a bit of raping".

What is wrong with people on this forum?

She should have her wits about her .following a stranger into a dark alley is not a wise move. Early morning at that . Dressed ‘provocatively’ another no no. The guy is just an opportunist rather than a rapist on the prowl. She should partly blame herself for providing a low hanging fruit for the scum.

Just about everyone on here is blaming the girl. This is rape we’re talking about. What’s wrong with everyone?

Blaming the girl for all the wrong moves.... providing a low hanging fruit for the criminal. More like leaving the house empty with the lights on and the front door opened and then yelling ‘burglary ! ‘ when the thief strike.

I just wonder what sort of friends she has that left her alone in that state. It's not her fault, no matter what the doomsayers on this forum say. She made some bad judgements but that doesn't entitle someone to assault her. Nor does it excuse the rapist. In civilised societies we recognise the rights of people to be protected from rapists and others even when they make themselves vulnerable. Perhaps this says something of those posters who try to put the blame on her...

Just being objective and calling it what it is.... a sad preventable incident that the injured party could have avoided with some common sense.

Rape and sexual assault, etc, should always be 100% condemned. Doesn't matter a single jot what built up before. Saying that any rape victim should have dressed more appropriately or drank less, etc, just gives rapists and potential rapists an excuse in their heads to do it.

When society puts all the blame 100% quite rightly on the rapist, you take away the illogical thinking there's any sense of an excuse to do this. It will never stop rape from happening completely, but it will make it happen less often.

Especially those rapes that happened at a spontaneous moment  by an opportunist rapist but not a serial rapist.

I'm assuming he means someone who's never raped before but suddenly has an urge when he sees a woman and an opportunity. They're helped to justify this behaviour in their mind by people who say women should dress more modestly or not get drunk, etc, if they don't wanna risk being raped.

You posters make it sound like a Thai problem. I certainly hope BritMantoo is making his comments tongue in cheek.

It is unfortunate but a young girl staggering around drunk alone  at 2 am is always going to be a target just about anywhere in the world

Yeah ,at age 29, there is no excuse for the lady not to be at least be aware especially when you are in a third world country where sexist men viewed women as inferior and as a sex object .

You are using the defence famously championed by Prime Minister Prayut.

Common sense prevents a lot of cr*p happening in your life. People without it usually suffer from the consequences.

Go home & grow up little girl. And throw the rapist in prison.

Common sense is often missing when you are young.  It is a hard lesson to learn for this young lady.  Maybe TV should be compulsory reading for the naïve tourist before they get on the plane.  Certainly enough reports illustrating just how dangerous it can be here.

Don't you think rape would also happen less if some women did not get stupidly drunk, walk about alone at night away from home, dress up like a hooker, talk to total strangers, and go off with strangers down dark alleys?

Everyone should be educated as to how to avoid potentially dangerous situations like this in the first place.

Agree the rapist is 100 percent to blame.

The woman is not to blame for being raped, but she put herself in such a dangerous situation, had very poor judgment and behaviour.  I can only hope she recovers from such a horrid experience, and learns from it to keep her safer in the future.  And, if the guy did rape her I hope he gets sent to prison for many years.

Image an old guy who looks rich sitting on a corner. And a pretty young girl walks by and takes him by his hand and walks with him down an alley.

What would happen if at the end of that alley she would take his wallet and run away?

I am sure lots of people would say something like: That old fool. Why did he go with her? ...

You can’t say the rapist is 100% to blame and say she put herself in a dangerous situation.

This is the whole point of only condemning the rapist 100%. Anthing less gives rapists and potential rapists    excuses to justify their actions.

There is no evidence she was raped , the first thing they should do was to contact a hospital and look for semen . That would be a normal procedure in other countries.

Too much reality, practicality, experience, common sense, self-preservation ..........

Get drunk and it's your own fault if you get raped and the prep. is a goddamn hero! Is that it?

I always tell people when drinking in a foreign land with a foreign language to pick up a business card of a matchbox with your hotels address on it as you leave your hotel. (Confirm accuracy with the front desk) Then if you are overserved, you, or a friend just have to put you in a cab and give the card to the taxi driver. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. I don't know who she was drinking with but with friends like these abandoning her in the condition she was in shows they are friends of no one.

Why?

Say you go out to a known dangerous place full of gangs and crime, shootings and robberies happening every day on the news... alone, drunk, and wearing lots of gold, money hanging out of you pockets, jewellery on display, waving your credit card about asking people where the ATM is.....

Then if you got robbed.……… The thieves are to blame... committing a crime.  You are not to blame, but you would have been very stupid to put yourself in that situation, right?

How can advising you not to go there like that be wrong?

And, if I am understanding you logic here, say you had a teenage daughter.  She comes downstairs dressed in sexy clothes, already drunk on alcopops, tells you she is off out to party on her own in some seedy part of town she has never been to before...…... you would say 'sure honey, go have fun'?

That’s a completely false equivalency.

Women shouldn’t have to live on edge and in fear. The message we should be getting across is rape is completely wrong and the rapist 100% condemned and blame. Anything at all less gives rapists reinforcement of their twisted logic.

There’s a very big difference between the kind of people who steal and the kind who rape. The feelings one has after having their phone stolen and being raped are not at all comparable.

this is the only part of your text that is crucial.........

the thieves are to blame..........there is no crime of being stupid.......most criminals are stupid but cannot be charged with this......

she is blameless....she is the victim..........i hope she gets good support......

Well, what about my second example, you did not answer that.

And, of course women (and men) should not have to live on edge and fear.  Most don't.  Most people have common sense not to put themselves in dangerous situations.

It would be lovely if women could walk around totally naked and frolic in the sun all day.... but guess what, this is the real world, and there are SOME disgusting and evil people out there.  So take responsibility for personal safely, don't intentionally put yourself in dangerous situations because you feel its your right to do as you please.

The whole point is it being fiercely condemned. No ifs nor buts. Once this happens rape will happen less. Telling women how to dress or how much to drink doesn’t. It is a lose-lose situation. Men find excuses and women live more on edge.

Rape sadly will always happen. You don’t lessen it by giving any form of an excuse to anyone thinking about doing it.

Shocked at the victim blaming on this thread,

What is the world coming to when a half-naked young white girl can't get falling down drunk late at night on her own in a 3rd world country without something bad happening to her.

You were doing ok until you implied that she was half-naked...she wasn't, she was fully dressed.

I think you'll find half of the skin on her body was clearly visible.

Which literally makes her half naked.

"There is no evidence she was raped".

How do you know that?   The point of this thread is that she claimed that she had been raped and that is being investigated.

Why are you suggesting that "normal procedures" may not have taken place?
