PM declares stance against corruption

Words, words, words. Meaningless words.

Now "watch". There's a word with meaning (as it relates to corruption). But the boss never said anything about that.

Think submarines, high speed rail, airplanes and see if corruption comes to mind.

Declaring an official 'Anti-Corruption Day' speaks volumes. A world first I'm sure. Anyway, self admittance is a first good step.

Judging from the picture,they are also saying this with a straight face,

while secretly laughing their balls off,except for the 3 ladies which will

be their mammaries,I think everyone in Thailand ,knows this is BS.nothing 

is going to change,as the ones who could make real laws, that could curb

I am surprised it is not in the school curriculum and that universities do not offer specialist graduation courses. Heaven knows there must be a wealth of knowledge and experience on the subject which could be shared by many of the higher echelon doyens of corruption. I refer particularly to military officers, politicians and "connected" friends and high ranking civil servants.

Thailand like various Asian countries work for the betterment of social cohesion than rule of law. The plebeians will always be plebeians in the elite’s mind. Somebody has to stay at the bottom of the pyramid power /status structure. They would use the grease of corruption to complement the rule of law and order which is a western invention anyway.

When I first visited Thailand, I could not believe the super low money anyone earned. 

I realised why corruption was endemic.

A few years ago, my wife told me she had to pay some grease (pink envelope) to officials at immigration, the land office and so on.

It got me the forms I needed.

This tour, I see that all govt agencies have the "no tips" signs everywhere.

 I was told it is effective at a low level at least.

I do know for sure that you cannot bribe immigration. But don't ask me how I know.

 If it starts to hold up - well that is good.

 But don't hold your breath. Not to worry

There is enough corruption going on in all countries as well as Thailand, and perhaps we could start there first.

Depressing. What is the point? Anyone with a single functioning neurone knows that this is a steaming pile of BS.

Land offices have been mentioned. We have been waiting for 2 years to have a simple transaction to be signed off. We were originally told it would cost 10,000 baht for the guy to do his job. 

The Junta have been in power for many years and corruption has not improved....has it changed? Yes, it is now specifically legislated for...an example is the 50,000 baht fine for not having your license which is a boon for every policeman. I rest my case.

Prayut has dictatorial powers enshrined in Art 44, yet he cannot pass a law getting public office holders to declare their assets.....and when his mates don't declare them, he ignores it.

Corruption exists in every country....but here is is fostered at the very highest levels and is shoved in your face....as I said it is depressing.

We want actions not words.

A good start point might be those who are refusing to declare their assets.

This Thai corruption stuff starts at the top and filters right down to the masses. It's a way of life here.

Make every civil servant give info on all of their assets, check against all sources for accuracy, then check again when they leave their positions.  Most cannot fill out forms in a foreign language, or open accounts in other countries, so it's not difficult to catch.  Fill up the jails with deterrent sentencing.  That will put a damper on it
