georgegeorgia
Just wondering how many of you whether your Australian or not actually have been or go to the Aussie themed bars in Pattaya ....just because they have a Aussie theme to them? i did it with the Irish bar in Pattaya, I actually went because i saw it on Pattaya TV that it was as irish as irish I know irish themed bars are a dime a dozen ., but i love them, they re always fun. i went to Walkabout recently up near third Rd opp tonys gym, i was surprised when the owner told me there were at least 5 Aussie theme style bars in Pattaya. Walkabout pub was ok, apart from the owner who told me to shut up as he was watching the NRL on the TV. ( As you do) And of course the traffic which drove me mad at 4pm, the interior was aussie themed i guess but the food was American, , the owner seemed Aussie and a bit gruff . i remember there used to be one in Walking street too but i didnt like that one, it had a “ infamous” sign at the door with racial type language aimed at a certain ethnicity unfortunately. I guess if these bars didnt have a “ theme” so to speak they wouldnt do as well, eg I probaly wouldnt of went to Walkabout bar if it was called Freds bar or something. Popular Post champers
I steer clear; they are usually full of wannabe Hells Angels, confused about their sexual identity. 4 1 1

Popular Post BumGun
I am am an Aussie and I don't drink so I don't go to many bars, regardless of theme. Not sure if that helps you or not? I have occasionally had Breakfast at Retox and a couple others. I also tell any other nationalities who ask that I am a Kiwi, only a Kiwi would know I am lying. I have seen and conversed with my fellow countrymen around SE Asia and many don't inspire me with a sense of national pride... 3 1
Popular Post Katipo
It's not so much about the theme, but rather "Is it a good pub?". Good selection of tasty food at fair prices, same goes for drinks, decent and varied range of patrons, etc. The theme can add to these things, but it's not a replacement for them.
Popular Post korkenzieher
Have to say, I largely say clear of 'themed' pubs. They have kind of become the McDonalds of the bar world. That said, I don't mean that I avoid any bar owned or managed by (say) Irish Aussie, etc. and I don't mind a bit of personal branding - but I would never go to a place like , for example, Father Ted in Hua Hin - simply because its only reason to exist is its theme. Comfort-food meccas are all very well (because that is what they are) but once they cross that line into being the Disneyfied version, well, as I say, really they've just become another mass-market outlet. 3

I would love to know which ones they are - a decent COLD beer is worth a stroll....or in this context, perhaps a walkabout? ???? Not sure if advertising is allowed so a PM if you have time, perhaps? To answer the OP........generally no (I'm a Brit and avoid so-called "British Pubs" in Patts as well.) As you said: "I guess if these bars didn't have a “ theme” so to speak they wouldnt do as well...." Edited December 10, 2018 by VBF

MyFriend You
I know this is the Pattaya forum, but I always liked to stay on Soi 11 in Bangkok across from The Australian.......unlike many other places that 'used to be there' The Australian is still a good place to go, good Aussie beef, Sports on a dozen TV's and very good staff. Further down the street is Mulligans Irish Pub, spent a fun St Paddy's day there Corned Beef and Cabbage!!!! Guiness on Tap amongst other expensive imports........but you asked. So if you are ever in town, try Soi 11 Sukumvitt.

Keep the others in the South.
