Yes, I am aware that it is an American bank, so hold off on the flames. I see Citibank branches all around Bangkok, so If I must use a Thai bank account to keep living here, I would certainly prefer Citi.

It is considered a Thai bank so you could use it to apply for an extension.

To open a standard savings account requires a deposit of one million baht. See: https://www.citibank.co.th/en/static/prod-info.htm?lid=THENCBLCRLNTLProductInformationCA

Also known as "impossible". Thanks for saving me time. They are apparently aiming at the wealthy.

I have an account with Citibank Thailand (main branch at Asoke) since 2016, but recently opened an account with KBank to put 800k in later this year when it's time for my extension because Citibank does not issue bankbooks. When I get back in Jan from my trip, I will go ask Citi if they issue letters & bank statements for customers to take to TI. Maybe TI doesn't need the bankbooks after all and will accept a bank letter & printed bank statements only.

Kindly, BertM

The requirement isn't that you have your money in a Thai bank, but rather that your money is in "a bank in Thailand".

Yes they will. There is no rule that says you have to have a bank book.

Thanks... I didn't know if Citibank qualified and also didn't know if TI would accept a bank letter & statements without a bank book, so I opened an account with KBank. It would have saved me time if I would have just asked you on TVF beforehand...

Thanks again.

Bert, if in future, you inquire about the letter etc from citibank, could you relate that info on Thaivisa. I'm interested in Citibank as I spend time in Saigon.

Will do... will be back in mid Jan and will post what Citi tells me. I'm anxious to know. I used the monthly income method with income affidavit previously, so I didn't bother asking Citi before.
