webfact
Gunman flees with cash from depositor outside ATM By Supakorn Akkanant, Ekkachai Sukhawattana The Nation A Thai businessman was robbed by a lone gunman, who escaped with Bt55,000 in cash in Chon Buri province early on Sunday morning. The robbery took place in Bang Lamung district, Pol Captain Setthawuth Mawanhirankul said. The robbery took place in Bang Lamung district, Pol Captain Setthawuth Mawanhirankul said. Following a report of the robbery at 5am, police inspected the scene in front of Siam Commercial Bank’s Soi Noen Plub Wan branch office. Pattaya businessman Wichai Lowittaya, 55, told officers that he was waiting in a short queue to deposit Bt110,000 cash into an automatic deposit machine and was counting the cash when a man wearing a helmet pointed a gun at his back and forced him to give up the cash. The businessman said he put up a resistance hence the robber could only snatched half the cash – or Bt55,000 – before fleeing on a motorcycle. Wichai said he gathered the rest of the cash that had spilled on the ground and phoned police. Wichai told police that he often made such cash deposits as he thought the presence of a CCTV camera in the heavy-traffic area made it safe. Other eyewitnesses confirmed Wicjhai’s account of a lone armed man snatching the cash from Wichai and fleeing on a motorcycle. Police are checking CCTV footage. At 5am? Making the same deposit on a regular basis obviously made it unsafe, and Soi Noen Plub Wan isn't an area I would want to be wandering around at that time either. 4

Were these people on their way home or going to work? It sounds like the gunman had insider knowledge. Perhaps putting up a fight was a put up job?
jaiyen
Stupid man ! Why didn't he wait for the bank to open ! I will never use an ATM for various reasons. Always deposit and withdraw cash at the counter, where it is safe. No chance of a thief or machine stealing the money.

neeray
Many cynics here. But if it is legitimate, his big mistake was counting his cash in public. (Never show your wad).

Perhaps he did that a couple of times, or why did suddenly a gunman show up? Edited December 24, 2018 by StayinThailand2much

For some reason half was being deposited, and 2 wads split. Maybe as simple as that. I have seen numerous examples of Thais carrying insane amounts in cash to the bank.. usually an open one. seahorse
There's a lot of "victim blaming" going on in this thread. Speaking of which, where's Bluespunk?
Henrik Andersen
Sorry to meny in this tread but you are just so wrong why is it wrong to put your money in a machine 5am That's better than just have it home Business people do this every day and night And your answer is always insurance scam Only one thing he do wrong was counting the money
