Retirement Visa to Marriage Visa

I take it with me anyway because it was wanted the first time.

For an extension it is required but not for a non-o visa application at a embassy or consulate.

If you include it in your application the probably would not give it back to you.

Maybe Rayong is a problem area or just the immigration office making up their own rules.

We have never been humiliated at the Masot immigration office and for the first time at our thankfully nearer new Sukhothai imm office.

They always been helpful because I have found they always have something added every year which has come as a directive of their head office and they need to get the copy of the application right which they send to the head office for checking.

Treatment varies by office and, in larger offices, the desk within the office.

Thanks for your report on Masot and Sukhothai.  Those who are married to a Thai should add this to the list of areas where one can live in peace.

Sadly, for many, it has literally come down to choosing where to live in Thailand based on how the local immigration-office treats applicants for their particular type of extension.  A part of my wife and I deciding to leave the Jomtien area, was how badly we were treated at that office - though those on retirement report a completely different (generally positive) experience.

thanks for all the information.

You may be asked for extra items, vary by the office. Do not offer up documents less asked other than the basic ones (proof of income/money, marriage certificate, wife's ID and blue book entries) because they will include  them and you just create more work .....

Do not wait until the last day because i have twice been asked for a new document or photo. Always allow for 2 visits to immigration just in case .....

Due to volume of photocopies needed i do not bother, just let them do it (our office is accomodating like that), just no change from 2000 baht. Again another reason, YOUR photocopies need to be perfect, theirs do not!

Expect writer's cramp from all the countersignatures you have to do (about 30-40!). In our office a marriage extension takes about 40 minutes to one hour, but at least you rarely queue for more than an hour, if at all.

AS for humiliating, not really. Intrusive, yes but I am sure an application for a UK visa IS far more humiliating. Also get one thing wrong with a UK visa, bye bye to the fee - in Thailand not so - they only ask for the money when the application is complete. I haven't heard of anyone not getting the visa after the 30 day stage, although i suppose if you have a fake marriage and they find out, it is possible.
