I brought some instant coffee (please no flames) from Canada which I thought it tasted really great.

 

I made a few cups here and it tastes rancid. My guess is that it has to be sugar in this country. I bought every variety of sugar here and still can't make the coffee taste like back home.

I'd be putting money on the water (but I don't use sugar or milk in coffee).

Sugar is sugar, from cane (or beets in some western countries). In Canada Rogers Sugar in fact imports Thai cane for their massive sugar factories in Vancouver and Montreal.
