My wife (Thai) is on FLR in the UK and would like to have her sister come visit for around one month. I'm happy to act as 'sponsor' and pay for all travel and accommodation etc (we have a spare room).

Unfortunately the sister cannot show 'reason to return' - kids are late teens, no property worth mentioning and she works on the farm with her husband plus shop work - all cash. I'm sure you know the drill.

Prediction on chances of success?

Formulate a story along the lines of family, work and commitments.  That's all you can do.  Definitely not a write-off.

Yes, I'm going to give it a try.  She's a nice lady and I'm sure will not 'do a runner' in the UK or refuse to board the return flight LOL!   I think the odds are against us but the application fee is no great loss.

By formulate a story I think the previous poster means tell it like it is.

Explain that she works on the farm with he husband, if you can get a note from the owner of the farm confirming that then do so, if the notes in Thai it would need to be translated, if in English if the author is called by UKVI staff they would expect to communicate in English.

Likewise get a note from the shop owner confirming that the job is open for her on her return from Holiday.

Whilst it's not unusual for Thai women to leave their kids here whilst they seek a better life in the promised land, tell it like it is, she misses her sister and wants to spend some time with her, though she would want to return to her family unit here, also provide details of the family accomodation in Thailand.

These cases are never straightforward but not impossible.
