So what? If that was the only way to get them out, then, it was the correct decision.

It probably saved them from a terrifying and traumatizing experience. And made the rescue less dangerous for the divers.

Yup, journalism really has died.

 

I would be certain that they were restrained when they were evacuated, for their safety & making handling much more manageable.

 

But to say they were handcuffed, really takes the biscuit

It worked and they are all alive, this in itself is justification for whatever they did.

 

 

another journo trying to sell his book by putting this out there, we all knew they were being sedated and wrapped so they could not remove masks etc in a panic, just trying to sensationalize it to sell his book, by inferring they were doing something wrong when in fact what they did saved their lives, its absolutely pathetic

Naturally the journalist has the proof with  written statements from the boys and all the divers and medics complete with photos.

 

How strange that none of the boys nor ANY of the rescuers ever mentioned these "facts" at any of the interviews during and after the rescues.

 

I was aware that they had been injected with tranquillisers, but handcuffed as well?

anyone who has done scuba diving knows the biggest threat to a instructor or buddy diver is a panicking driver who will grab your regulator or bolt to the surface potentially killing themselves.

This article has been written in a unnecessarily scandalised tabloid style. I can see straight through it and it annoys me.

Actually the story is about the parents being told something different to the actual procedure to get them out, but that would be understandable. Is the OP suggesting that the parents should have been fully briefed prior to the action?

Everyone was misled before and after the rescue about the sedation. It puzzles me as to why. It seemed like the right choice was made and the kids were in the best of hands so why even the PM felt the need to come out afterwards and announce they were not heavily sedated I just don't understand. Or why exposing it is such a big deal to some people.

 

I am so happy that they are all alive and well...

If they had known,  they probably have been even more anxious and worried.  Just as well to keep it from them.

I very much doubt that the parents were not told that a drug would be administered and did not consent to it.

Ok, truth sounds terrible but was it really as bad as it sounds ?

 

totally justifiable to handcuff them for their own safety.

 

totally justified to have them drugged to get them out.

 

if parents or media were told the truth , from the sound of it , it would of created an outrage which would have complicated rescue even further.

The legality of it , they were expecting some casualties and its probably illegal to drug someone and handcuff them  and there could have been some lawsuits if there were some deaths

Joking aside, of course it was the correct course of action to restrain them. Not sure about the Ketamine though. Is it a safe drug for humans? I have no idea. 

Kudos to the brave rescuers and the volunteer helpers. And never forget the life lost.

One might do well to remember that this is Thailand  and as such the system is not plagued with ambulance chasing parasitical lawyers.

 

The end justified the means.

 

Speaking as a parent had been a parent of one of the children involved in the issue  the actions would  certainly been approved by me.
