The people were not trapped like rats in a hole.   Most of them are asylum seekers and their goal was to get into the US, turn themselves into Border Patrol and be screened for asylum.

I was watching a news report with a border guard standing on one side of the wall and a person on the other side climbing over.   Even without a ladder, he had no problem scaling the wall.   The border patrol officer could do nothing until he reached the other side and is in the US.

Have you seen the specific report I was talking about? Some maybe asylum seekers but they could do that at any port of entry. Some of those caught today are smugglers. They will go to prison for a very long time.

Again, you turn your illiberal gaze away from Trump making kids and the paychecks of government workers hostage to his vanity wall project.

The man in the White House is acting like a thug.

And it’s all so unnecessary since Mexico is paying for the wall.

I've just had an idea!

Why not let Mexico pay the salaries of the laid off Federal Workers?

It can be set off against the money they owe towards "The Great Wall of Trumpton".

They probably would if you sold enough cocaine to bribe them to do so and imported guns into Mexico.

No more wall needed!!!!

Apply all the funds toward hiring more personal, improving detection technology and protecting all points of entry, not only the southern border. We are not paying for trump's red meat. if he wants to throw red meat to his base let him buy it himself.

Yup, and if he wants to open the government tomorrow, all he has to do is say those above words, and Congress will give him $6 billion immediately.

Yes, sure, walls in the right places work. We all know that. Democrats know and acknowledge that. And, of course, the Mexico side issues are well known. If Trump wanted to act Presidential, he would stop the incendiary language and this whole thing would be solved.

Walls are "Immoral" don't you know.

It's really that simple. Trump amends his demands to what is really needed, which is a comprehensive security plan, including walls, where appropriate, and nobody has any objections. What sane person would?

That's basically what went down today. Let's see how Pelosi responds.

Please cite where there are smugglers.    Smugglers are much more sophisticated.   The Administration has done everything possible to stop them from entering legally and applying for asylum.

That's disingenuous. Anybody over 18 digging tunnels and taking children across a border is a child smuggler. Do you often times sneak children through borders utilizing a tunnel? If so you are a criminal and a felon.

The Mexicans will pay for the wall.

It will be the best built wall in the history of wall building.

Give him a chance to fulfill his campaign promise.

It was the best promise ever made.

Sorry.

376 people were arrested today trying to tunnel. One of the largest catches on the border lately at one time. Tunnels are not that effective these days. Maybe ten years ago.

You probably know much more than I do on this topic. Here's a couple of articles that have me thinking there is lots of tunneling going on;

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2018/08/24/drug-smuggling-tunnel-mexico-found-under-abandoned-kfc-arizona/?utm_term=.d873a918dc54

Trenchless tunneling and boring is a common thing now. The tunnel doesn't need to be big to smuggle small illicit packages.

The technology for detecting tunnels is also much better. Tunnels take time to dig.The steel slats should go 10 feet bellow ground.

For your example there is a small package delivered. Okay so you need somebody to collect it. With a wall there is no easy retreat back into Mexico.

The person arrested for collecting the package will become a felon. They could collect fingerprints and DNA from the package as well and add to the database.

So first you say that its all wall and hes neglecting all the other aspects of border security because... Ego.

Then your proven wrong so you shift the goalposts to "HeS DoInG iT fOr HiS BaSe!!11"

Why is the United States the only country on the planet thats not allowed to enforce its <deleted> borders?

Sure why can't we have a wall like the walls around every European country. I particularly like the wall around Thailand.  .

Do you want to tear down the existing walls at the southern border? You know, because they "dont work" and are "immoral" and "costly".

They want Trump to commit political suicide and that is why there is a stalemate.

Human trafficking does not include your own children.   So, no it is not smuggling.   Traffickers, by the way, seldom, if ever, cross the border.   The people are brought to the border, gotten across and they are on their own.

Oh, and it wasn't one tunnel, it was many tunnels.   Lots of tunnels, Deep, Dark, beautiful tunnels.

Oh okay. That is a much clearer issue if everybody has identification such as passports etc. Smugglers gain their money from introducing aliens on one side facilitating passage and a meeting point on the other with a contact. That is what is paid for.

The people that dig tunnels try to circumvent the law not adhere to it and anybody can ask for asylum with out doing so.

If not anybody could just walk across in an area with no fence.

No , I just don't want spending limited resources where not needed.

No one before trump ever said that we need  A wall between Mexico and the US. This is a manufactured issue by trump to throw red meat to his base . It is a political issue , as admitted by Cryingdick when he said . not getting some sort of wall would be political suicide for trump !

the country should not have to pay for trump's partisan politics.

So walls DO work then?

DHS & CBP both have constantly stated unanimously that walls are needed, Democrats have voted for hundreds of miles of barriers at the border in the past.

Pay?

Its .11% of the budget. Its a minuscule amount in context.

You're right.  However Pelosi can't compromise because her hatred of Trump won't let her.  It's all about the hate.  Pelosi and her followers hate Trump and really don't care about the country.

So, unless the haters can get over their hate and do what's right, the next step will be for Trump to declare an emergency and build the wall.  It has to be done.

Actually, it's about the creation of rational and effective public policy through legislation.  Something one of the two political parties has simply given up on.
