I certainly don't condone this act of violence, and we don't know all the details yet, but I am afraid you will see more of it. The Russians are invading this land more and more. In Pattaya and Bangkok, Russians are more visable than other foreigners. I don't know if the Thai Tourism Board is promoting itself there or if it is just word of mouth that more and more are coming here. And we all know the Russian mafia is the worst in the world.

Hey, Russian mafia is selling oil in Russia, not shooting girls in Jomtien beach! You are under impression of those studid primitive American movies...

A Thai man speeding off on a motorbike, now that is something you hardly ever see around Pattaya.

I believe it says "leave the scene", as in of the murder ( now this is not unusual for Patters)

Still leaves about 5 million Thai men without an alibi

Wrong again because if you read further it just seems the thai man that works those exact chairs

failed to appear for work. I do not think they have 5 million thai men working those deck chairs.

coincidental maybe

Watch this space......tragic, RANDOM killing of 2 Russian ladies out to watch the sunrise. Drunk Thai wannabe with 9mm approaches ladies who have seen it all before and don't take him seriously so he shows just how serious he is by unloading said 9mm into said ladies. Wrong place at the wrong time. Tragic, Senseless, Mindless but unfortunately not uncommon in the beautiful beach side resorts of Pattay and Jomtien. Last week a knofing, this week a shooting, next week a bombing?....I'm glad I made my move to the jungle a couple of years ago.....RIP.

That's retarded. They were slumped over like they were caught by surprise. If they were agitated i'm sure they would have done more than just sit there with their whisky and mobile phone. The perp was reported wearing combat boots too. That's highly unusual gear for a Thai guy to wear around a beachfront don't you think? Nothing adds up except 1+1 = 2 dead people. Just another day in Pattaya I guess. It's known as a cesspool for a reason. If Thailand wanted a hub it's there..except organized crime, drugs, prostitution, and murder is the name of the game.

If it involves violence and Russians then it's usually not random at all. I bet there's a lot more to this.

================================================================

Yeap; Wintermute; I believe you are correct; of course there's more to this story that what we've heard sofar. I've lived and worked in Pattaya for almost 15 years now and I can tell you that there have been some pretty incredible encounters involving Russian citizens here.

As a rule; it is mostly kept "between Russians" and I would be surprised if this will not turn-out to fall into that same catagory.

Likely scenario could be: two Russian hookers (and there are litterally hundreds of them here !?) no longer desoire to pay-off their Russian pimps; these guys are not the pick-nick type and will go through extreme lengths to "save face" with regards to the rest of their "flock" . . . . tatsteless business, no kidding !

:o

My money is on this scenario.

This smacks of a hit, not random crime. Bit surprised at the targets though.

We all know the Thai police are all honest, uncorruptable and totally law abiding.

But the Malaysian polis in 2001/2002 faced an influx of Russian hookers and gangsters. As the Malaysian Polis (phonetic spelling they use) run all the local brothels they decided to "clean up" KL and hey presto loads of Russian gangsters (and their bitches) were found with bullets in their heads. I suppose they all had "accidents" while cleaning their guns........

The Russian mafia are hardly a bunch of pussies but when faced with the Malay polis they were out gunned. The Malaysian polis also run a large number of hit men (and women). They recruit good marksmen at shooting ranges (a local friend of mine was a good shooter but had to give it up because of all the "why dont you...."). And when arrested its easy for the polis to "shoot first ask questions...well they all dead sorry"

Now I wonder why 2 young Russian women were in Pattaya (Thailands largest non-brothel). Sorry I forgot "there is no evidence of prostitution in Pattaya". So couldnt be that then :o

Whoa ....

surely the point of a forum like this is to raise questions and discuss. it's not the fox news channel is it?

i've lived here long enough that instinctively two russian women dead on the beach at 5am raises the question. sorry but there are alot of russian hookers in town and that is what imediately crossed my mind. i could be wrong, probably am, but not to voice that when we know how the wheels of justice work in this town and country is wrong. dont dis the moderators.

i've known russian women who come here on a holiday and turn tricks to pay for the flight and holiday. good time girls more than your hardcore 'ho. nothing against any of them, good girls or bad. but russian women earn a <deleted> load more than thais and it is perfectly understandable that they crossed some line and paid the price in what is becoming an increasingly lawless and mafia controlled town. it's far more likely than they didn't pay the deckchair attendant.

what ever the the reason behind their murder. they didn't deserve it, hookers and no hookers all deserve a right to earn their living especially in an adult city like pattaya. and I hope the criminals responsible are brought to justice.

My feeling is that many people on the forum are obsessed by cheap available sex. They just suspect hooker in ANY young woman.

Once again: girls came here for 2-weeks tour and stayed in hotel at beachfront. Does not seem like a hooker at all.

Many russians stay in that area to include russian hookers and work as explained above

two week holidays and long stay if they get connected to stay longer.

Your logics indicated that You know nothing about Russians...

Office staff in Moscow are allways given 2-3 weeks of vacation at winter time, not in summer. Touris companies arrange package tours for this category as they have enough money for such budget destination like Thailand. Pattaya is not much known in Russia as a brothel place, it is just exotic tropical paradise. Did You ever notice that many Russians come to Pattaya with families, unlike other westerners? ...

Yes there are many russians that come to thailand for package holidays and like it or not there are many who come to work in the prostitution business. Pure fact!! :D

As for these two ladies, I don't have a clue if they are prostitutes or not. However getting two bullets each leads many to believe there is something shady going on with the circumstances surrounding their demise, other than an argument over a deck chair. :o Typical mafia type slaying.

Side note: Thai Whiskey is typical hotel stock from rooms.

Anyone remember that very vicious attack on the two Russian (?) girls in the Banglamphu area in late 2005. As a result of their injuries they both spent several weeks in hospital here in Bangkok before they could fly home. I think they were attacked whilst sat together in a tuk-tuk by, according to eye witness accounts, a Thai male. And again, if I remember rightly, there was speculation that they were hookers too.

This was a very strange case and apart from receiving next to no attention here in Thailand (there was a thread concerning the case on Thaivisa) the motivation for this particular very nasty attack still remains unsure.

Russians (and citizens of it's former satellite states) are very much involved in criminal activities in Pattaya and it's reach (even including BKK).

Let's watch the boys in brown do their very best to obfuscate the real reasons for this heinous crime with their wild and unrealistic claims - anything to protect the image of Thailand!

Can they - the Thai police - honestly lay the blame on the criminal activities of a foreign gang(s) - Russian mafia - operating 'openly' in Thailand under their noses?

I don't think so! Hence the attention that will be given to highly unlikely scenarios like the disgruntled deck chair attendant.

And Jomtien beach at night must still remain one of the most dangerous places in Thailand.

What is the percentage of 'tricks' among all 'package tour women'? I suspect much less than 1%, otherwise many companies would have lost their licences...

what's the percentage of "package tour women" getting executed on the beach? much, much less than girls earning a bit of holiday money.

this is a defunct argument. were they working girls or not? don't know. the real question is whether the local cops will get to the bottom of this or pass it off as a freak event.

we dont know.

but pattaya has a mafia problem

pattaya has a policing problem

thailand has a money for silence problem

these are the questions that expats should raise and discuss.

angry deck chair man - just increases

Yes, true. But many of those You can 'Russians' are likely to be Ukrainian, Uzbek, etc. Life standard in those contries is much lower than in Russia.

The point is that February 23 is big holiday in Russia, so girls could have a reason to drink.

Also, there are facts of unreasonable violence to foreigners in Jomtien. It is that side of the beach where Thais used to come for overnight drinking/drugs. Just stop next to Chayapruek/Jomtien corner at weekend and You can see what kind of rough public is there.

There are Russian hookers, and there are Russian hookers; this observation reflects a similar range of quality and cost as for Thai prostitutes or prostitutes in any country. One the one hand there are the heavily tattooed, foul-mouthed, do-anybody types. On the other hand there are model-quality escort types servicing a very select clientèle. The services of the latter can fetch many hundreds of dollars per night, even in Thailand, most frequently from Arab, Asian and African clients.

"Retarded"....a little harsh and personal!.....moderation anyone?.....Hmmmm combat boots on a deck chair attendant, now theres something you don't see every day! See you were also shooting from the hip as I later added that the ladies had been shot from behind which could still have the shooter fall into the random or organised category but Mr Deckchair has not turned up so who's to say....but "retarded"....that's just not nice!

Oh Geez!!!!

First it was The Russians are coming! The Russians are coming!

Now where will they go?

Time to find a suspect, any suspect, and have a very quick public lynching. That'll do it.

Guess they didn't read the book about not offending the face of a Thai.

If there is a silver lining in this horrid event, and there really isn't, I suppose it will be easier to locate a vacant beach chair for awhile. Also, people are likely to be really, really polite to the vendors.

Maybe Russian Mafia?

Living here several years as well...

Unfortunately met them. Many times. Seen them in action, not pretty I assure you.

Main reason most people don't notice them is because they are a very close group...

Been in Moscow several times as well. When you say living standard is a lot higher then in the surrounding states you might be right, but in my humble opinion their living standard is still a lot behind the one Thai people enjoy...

If you consider the presence of Thai maffia "fairy tales" the I'm afraid you are living with your head in the sand!

Unfortunately I might add, I'd rather see you being correct, but alas...

I think those were a bit drunk angry Russians from the nearest bar... :o 'Russian mafia' in Thailand is big exaggeration. In Thialand there are some guys hiding from Russian authorities (same with other nations), but they prefer not to expose and keep quet.

Thai mafia - yes, it is, controls beach front also...
