Does anyone have any up to date information on the cost of an MRI plus one consultation, outside of Bangkok, preferably in Pattaya or Rayong?  The last post I can find is dated 2015,  with costs ranging from 7,000 Baht to 10,000.  Does anyone know of any MRI/X Ray specialist clinics in that general area of the country.

Thanks in anticipation.

A private hospital in Petchebun does MRI for 18,000 baht but no consultation and no pare work just MRI.

hmmm.  I just had an MRI done for my shoulder in Melbourne Florida, USA.  The middle person insurance broker basically said that despite the doctor's recommendation to have one done, by the time the insurance company approves it, well over one week will go by and they typically refuse the MRI unless therapy and/or shots were done first.  Seemed stupid to me that a non-invasive exam such as an MRI would be discouraged but after talking with several co-workers that does seem to indeed be the case!  So the MRI shop said it is better and will be faster and cheaper to just pay $200 bucks USA and literally can walk in the next day for the exam, and the price includes a CD with the images and a radiologist's report.  If I went through my insurance, they would bill much higher than that and the insurance company would allow it and while I could then count the cost against my deductible.  So it was "better" to just pay the $200 USD out of pocket.  The reason I mention this here, is because 18,000 baht seems very expensive, given that I just had one done with many many images and angles of my should for $200 USD x 31/USD baht = 6000 baht.

I know it's not the area your hoping for, but I can give you (in PM) the name of a good Chiang Mai hospital who have the full MRI technology. Two years back:

- Full MRI brain scan - 8,000Baht, includes a detailed report from the trainer radiography doctor.

- Full body scan including knees - 18,000Baht includes a detailed report from a trained  radiography doctor.

Plus consultations with a qualified doctor before,  and after the MRI session to discuss the report, total for both consultations 300Baht.

Costs will vary depending on the part of the body scanned and whether or not contrast media is used.

The least expensive option is a stand alone imaging center like this one

www.mrithailand.com

But note that there is a risk (small but real) in having contrast media injected outside of a hospital setting. If you don't need contrast no problem but if you do, think carefully whether the cost savings is worth the risk. A small percentage of people have life threatening adverse reactions to contrast media.

Also make sure you are certain of the need for mri and exactly what type is needed (i.e. get doctor recommendation) as you may otherwise waste money on a trst that was either unnecessary or of wrong type.

Not sure why you posted this but I think Pilotman was talking about hospitals in Thailand not Melbourne Florida USA

lovelomsak, the op was just giving a cost comparison to how inexpensive it is in America. If converted his $ 200.00 US expensive he is saying it should not cost more than 6000 baht

But it does. Mri and ct are not less expensive in Thailand, in fact the opposite.

The problem is the comparatively small population size. The machines are very costly and quickly become obsolete so the cost has to be recouped within a few years. Divide that by the number of tests performed. In countries with larger populations there is an economy of scale.

These tests are cheapest in India due to large volune.
