Is the start date for the six month UK visitor visa the date the visa is issued or can it be post-dated until the date of the first intended visit to the UK? If it can be post-dated how much earlier can you apply for the visa?

The 6 month period during which you can enter and must leave the UK starts from the date of issue of the Visa. You can have the date of issue deferred up to 3 months but you should state it clearly on the application form.

If you do ask for the start date to be postponed check the visa carefully when recieved to ensure that they have done so. This can be overlooked.
