canerandagio
Hello all, Not sure if this query makes sense, but is there an accountancy firm in Bangkok able deal with my UK tax position, tax return etc, familiar with issues pertaining to people who moved out of the UK? Or can anyone recommend someone in the UK for this? Thanks in advance, straydog Edited March 3, 2019 by canerandagio Link to comment

Can you give me an idea of approximate costs for a normal guy like me just needing little advice and a tax return? I know I should ask them ???? but it's Sunday, and I am in full decision-making mode... in USD, 100? 200? 1000? Link to comment
sanemax
I use a UK tax company to fill in and submit my tax returns , you just have to tell him all the figures and he fills the form out on-line and submits it to the I.R. , he used to work for the I.R. and knows it all . He charges 120 GBP to fill in and submit the tax return , PM me if you want his contact details 1 Link to comment

As mentioned you can simply contact any UK accountant to file a UK tax return for you for about 120 pounds that’s about what I pay also or you can register a tax account with the HMRC and file your own return online for free Link to comment

I remember that filing online wasn't possible for non UK residents two-three years back. Do you have direct experience that it's possible now? Link to comment

Do you have direct experience that it's possible now? The gov hmrc site has been updated just recently although I’m not sure if you require a UK address or not to register a new account. Maybe you just require national insurance number? You could check in minutes though just goto the website Alternatively you can use an accountant 2 Link to comment
sanemax
Just a reminder for Brits abroad , if you were on Self-assessment tax basis , you still have to submit your yearly self-assessment tax returns to the Inland revenue , even if you are not living or working in the U.K. otherwise they will fine you 10 quid a day for not submitting your tax return on time , even if its zero . 1 1 Link to comment

The non resident form part (SA109) otherwise is only available in paper format not on HMRC's own online filing. Link to comment

As the SA 109 cannot be filed online (without paying for software) I have to complete a paper return. I will be surprised if HMRC force everybody to pay for specialist software by removing the option to send the SA 105 in a paper format? Link to comment

I have never submitted one or been fined; presumably because I left UK before all that started. Edited March 3, 2019 by evadgib Link to comment

Your correct, i'm wrong, I got mixed up with this, as i missed the October deadline for paper returns. so i had to do my return on line instead, with some approved software or get fined. I now, just do it on line. I did think, i read some place that paper returns were now being phased out in 2018 for non resident landlords. but obliviously i was wrong about that. My apologies. 1 1 Link to comment

To quote from https://www.gov.uk/self-assessment-tax-returns/sending-return :- "You can send a return using commercial software or paper forms. "You must use one of these options to send returns for a partnership for a trust and estate if you get income from a trustif you lived abroad as a non-resident if you’re a Lloyd’s underwriter if you’re a religious minister to report profits made on selling or disposing of more than one asset (‘chargeable gains’)" 1 Link to comment

I used Taxcalc whilst in the UK since about year 2000 ... came here in 2007 and have used it every year since. If you have a credit/debit card registered to you here in Thailand you won't pay VAT on the cost of the program ...about £25 for last years. 1 Link to comment
