Police called to a timber merchants in Trang in southern Thailand were told conflicting stories after an eight month old child died from horrific injuries.

Some of the workers claimed that the little girl just fell but police rejected this claim due to massive head trauma suffered by the victim.

Other reports indicated that the child had been crushed to death under the wheels of a fork lift truck after the mother - a woman from Myanmar - dropped her fleeing the truck.

Police are investigating the different angles of the tragedy that happened in Nong Bua sub-district on Wednesday.

Meanwhile Thai Rath reported that the timber merchants had told them not to report the news as it would damage their business.

What parent would leave their toddler in such a dangerous working environment without supervision?

An 8 month old would be crawling not toddling so even more vulnerable.
