Latest news seems to be this article of 1st Feb 2019. Indicates a project completion of 2022. Place that in your diary and you can start yet another topic in 2022 on it not being completed as planned........

Nothing reported? Maybe you need to improve your googling skills as finding the update (albeit not the news you were looking for!!) was not difficult. As I said, you only have to wait until 2022 before you get the chance for another rant.

Oh, even if the upgraded works are completed on time (very unlikely) a ferry operator will need to be found with a ferry that has ro-ro capability. Then add testing and certification actions ++.

Maybe better change that diary date to 2025!!

From the reports I have seen the Pattaya to Hua Hin ferry operates about one third to one forth passenger capacity most of the time.....Ferries have a whole bunch of operating cost...So I would suspect the ferry has been a serious money looser from day one......If they cut the expensive fare in half they would be making more money I think.....

So I dont think they are in any rush to get another money loosing route going to  Koh Chang.....

I trust in the meantime as well as providing the ferry service, they are going to upgrade the road and parking capacity to deal with all the additional tourism this will create. At busy times currently that road is beyond a joke, a couple of years ago I was stuck in a mile long queue stretching South from the ferry terminal. At the time I didn't even want the ferry, I was simply attempting to get to the East side of the island, but could not.

The road and much other infrastructure on Koh Chang is already being used at a capacity way over it was designed for. How many years before we are hearing about vast rubbish dumps taking over the interior of the island?

Went with the ferry last December. Coming back the wait was 1h 45min for the ferry. The capacity is nowhere near the peak demand and nothing will fix it other than a tunnel and then the island would be completely doomed.

Solution is the usual, hike up the ferry prices 10x and have a salty entry fee to the island for non-locals.

No, this was about the existing ferry between Koh Chang and the onshore pier. Koh Chang does have others piers but not sure if they are used commercially. Any additional ferries would be adding to the already heavily overloaded traffic at the ferry terminal we we're talking about. So add those to your travelling times once the ferry, if ever, wil run between sattahip and koh chang.

there are 2 ports used for ferries to the mainland, and i thought the sattahip ferry would use a different port again higher up the island
