Why is there so much anger in Thailand?

It's just that they have not been exposed to a privileged level of education as most of us in the West had access to.

"privileged level of education" your having a laugh aren't you ????

We are all indoctrinated to be good little citizens, every country has a curriculum to keep its citizens in the place they want them to be, taught to blindly respect with no thought, the Police, the clergy, doctors - life has proven that to be incorrect, history? were we taught that we were mass murderers on behalf of the moneyed elite etc, etc ..........

Thai schools are no different, they do a very good job of raising subservient non thinking masses that will continue to enrich the elites for minimum wage, the system has worked well for many years :shock1: denial of what they are taught to be fact - can result in a lengthy prison sentence.....................????

I feel safe. Maybe its because I have a wall around the house with dogs and cameras. But I think the main thing is I do not go out once it is dark

Perhaps you should get out and have a few beers with the locals to give them a chance to know you.

Why ? I have had few to no real problems, don't go looking for them. Long ago I used to go out to late night bars and Rave parties the only time I ever got hassled was foreign trash who seem to enjoy picking fights, sport for them. Never seen Thais fighting except for girls outside of Nimmanhemin Road pubs in Chiang Mai.

Why ? One guy told me sun sand seafood and snatch not necessarily in that order he does not drive and refuses to study Thai.  When I suggested my opinion the country is more interesting if you understand the culture and language he told me he pays "no attention anymore" as it is better to ignore and "anybody worth talking to speaks English". What a negative attitude!

I disagree, but funnily enough there's an element of safety and contentment in your statement.  We all have those days from time to time. If we're honest with ourselves

I would agree with this guy (not keen on seafood).

I made the effort to read, write and speak Thai but found it completely worthless.

I don't even bother to interact socially with the locals (outside family and pussy) anymore.

His attitude isn't negative, it's facing reality.

A brave comment. You'll probably get bashed but I think there's a bit of this in all of us

What about road rage, knive crimes, pushing people in front of train, push them down stairs because the guy didn't like her face, sexual harassement. Go read a German newspaper. Berlin seems to be a place best to stay away from. European countries, apart from countries like Liechtenstein, Andorra, are no less angry. Yet I don't put this behaviour down to anger but "I can do what I like". Law enforcement is absent in some places.

like this does not happen in thailand but worse and more brutal?

Drug use is quite high (no pun intended) in Thailand.  Then there is ya dong and Thai whiskey.  All of these are cheap, even for lower paid Thai's, and widely abused.

I always thought "alcohol abuse" to be a weird term - if drinking several beers is abuse, then what is "use" of a beer? Then I came to Thailand and found so many spirits which have a genuine "use". Lao Khao is great for degreasing motorcycle parts, Siam Sato is great for inducing vomiting in people who have ingested a poison, and a big bottle of SangSom is used for impressing and intoxicating bargirls.

Drinking the stuff yourself is definitely "abuse".

Shootings in Thailand more than in America?  Where did you get your figures.  Suggest you do research before making ignorant statements.

Thailand's crime level is 36.46.....America 55.84.....which is 53 percent higher than Thailand!

America has...

4 X more rapes than Thailand....

21 X more Total crimes and 5 X more crimes per 1000.

4 X more violent crimes and murder rate than Thailand,

Check out this link if you want.  https://www.nationmaster.com/country-info/compare/Thailand/United-States/Crime

But, sure you think is Thailand that is so bad and getting worse.

But America has almost five times the population of Thailand

Add ice,  juice from a lime, two spoonfuls of sugar, a handful of mint leaves and you've got Mojito's.

Definitely not abuse.

Poster Lancelot leads off with a statement about shooting in Thailand. Then ignores the fact that Thailand has a higher per capita murder rate the US. It has been this way for decades and if anything is undereported. Throwing the term 'ignorant' around is never a good idea, it can come around and bite you on the buttocks.

A country I know far more about, and one that expats here are talking up as a retirement option, the PI (Philippines), comes in under the US, in this statistic. However, no one that I know believes those statistics are any more than window dressing for appearance sake. Something to consider if you’re thinking of upping stakes and moving.

And if you want to get stabbed, go to the UK.  At least Thailand doesn't have a "knife crime epidemic"....

You mean if you want to get stabbed go to England or Wales.

Knife crime in Scotland goes down yearly whilst it rises in England and Wales.

hahaha ipswich? never heard of the place, but you have clearly never been to krabi or nakhon si thammarat. It does not matter what someone says or even put out murder rate or gun murder rate showing thailand is alot worse,  people from UK Will  say Uk is worse or that city is worse or bad anyways, if you are living here and saying UK is worse you probably cant speak or write/read in thai, if i could not do it i would also think thailand is safer than Europe.

Thais keep too much bottled up inside. That's dangerous. It's healthier to get angry and lose your temper a little bit on a regular basis than to keep it inside until you explode like a boiler.

The answer to this topic at hand it's pretty much simple. High population density causes  a lot of stress and you don't even realise it. Polution , noise also causes us to become angry. Go and live alone for 1 year in the middle of the woods and you will be the chillest and peaceful man on earth. come back to town and your nerves will be on the rise.
