webfact Posted March 10, 2019 Posted March 10, 2019 Thousands vie for place in prestigious Triam Udom Suksa School By The Nation Thousands of nervous students thronged the Impact Forum building in Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi province on Sunday, as they sat for entrance exams to study at Mathayom 4 level at the prestigious Bangkok-based Triam Udom Suksa School. Of the 10,517 hopefuls who sat the exams yesterday, the school will have room for only 1,110 students for academic year 2019, a competitive ratio of 1:10, said school director Sopon Kamol, saying the exams went well. Despite the huge crowd, there was no chaos, thanks to a realistic rehearsal at the building ahead of exam day. In order to prevent cheating, students were barred from bringing along their cellphones, digital devices or watches that could be used to help with mathematical calculations, he said. This is the first time that the Office of Basic Education Commission has ordered Triam Udom Suksa School to conduct entrance exams two weeks earlier than other highly competitive schools or general schools so that students from across the country, who wished to attend higher secondary education at Triam Udom Suksa School, could get a chance and still have other places to study if they did not pass the test. The exam results will be announced on March 14 and student orientation day will be on March 17. Bangkok Secondary Educational Service Area Office 1 deputy director Thanarat Somkhane inspected the exam site and said the school had prepared well at every stage and hence parents could feel confident that the test was conducted with fairness and transparency. LazySlipper Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 Me wonders if the English teachers there are native English speakers. As for the Thai English teachers wonder what their proficiency is, All things said, nice to see that there actually is a school here that seems reputable by right.
Pedrogaz Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 Is this school prestigious outside Thailand? Do any foreigners come to study there (excluding children of expats who are stationed here).
Popular Post Sydebolle Posted March 11, 2019 Popular Post Posted March 11, 2019 I hired Thai workers and staff for 30+ years. Conclusion is, that in my earlier days I found people with little to no practical knowledge but willing to listen and to learn. Some of them turned out great and two run their own companies - successfully - today. A generation later, i.e. now, you find people with little to no practical knowledge but unwilling to listen and not interested to learn. Of 100 interview appointments some 12 show up, three are hired and - if it is your very lucky day in the year - one will physically show up on the first day of employment. After 12 years of mandatory schooling, possibly added values like college or university, I can attest that most graduates know absolutely nothing, be it of use, of cultural value or even about their own country. Staff borrowed money from the company to "pay for the entrance" fee for their kids. Bottomline is, those who could - cannot due to the lack of funds. Those with funds are those who leave with degrees and certificates yet are pretty useless in the real world of every day working. My conclusion is, that those who could invoke changes/improvements are the very same people who grossly benefit of the status quo! 5

Most of the foreign teachers at that school are American and the Thai teachers are very fluent in English. 1

Cereal Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 So, not allowed to bring in electronic devices. Back to cheating old school style I guess.
