A friend asked me to post this:

My friend is planning the first out-of-country trip for his Thai wife and 18 month-old half-Thai, half-American child, taking them to the States for a couple of weeks in May. He has a U.S. passport, not unexpectedly, and both his wife and child have Thai and U.S. passports. All of them will be traveling on the U.S. passports; no Thai passports will be presented. I didn't ask why.

What will be stamped in his wife's and daughter's U.S. passports when they return to Thailand?

At most the date and place of entry. What else could there be? I'm not even sure they stamp US passports on entry. Last time (2004) entered in Chicago I didn't get a stamp.

Presumably , if they present US passports on re-entry to Thailand , they will get a 30 day stamp.

It would make more sense to present Thai passports on exit from and reentry to Thailand

and use the US passports in the US.

The airline check-in in Th might also need to see the US passports to prove right of entry

to the US.

put it this way, Thailand will need to stamp them out to begin with.

The wife and child should present the Thai passports at this point. Get stamped out on these. Hubby uses his US passport, as that is what he entered Thailand on.

Upon entry into the US, obviously, all use the US passports.

Returning to Thailand:

All depart the US on US passports.

The wife and child should enter on their Thai passports so that there is no restriction on their stay. As someone mentioned, if they were to enter Thailand on US passports, they would be subject to immigration rules and will be granted 30 days only.
