Back Slapping Childish Humour ?

Why not move The Last Word into the farang pub - it doesn't really belong in Bedlam!

BTW, Rain might return when the rainy season starts!

EDIT: Sorry about the duplicate (almost) posting!

Why not move The Last Word into the farang pub - it doesn't really belong in Bedlam!

Couldn't agree less.

Bedlam is for nonsense such as this.

Shifting it , and other such , out to public gaze

would lower people's perception of the forum as a whole.

I agree with Croc if he's talking about threads where people

are trying to get some info or discuss an issue.

I constantly resist the urge to post an inane quip in what

I consider a serious post (you might find that hard to

believe when you look at some of my <deleted> but it's true).

There are plenty of "nonsense" threads where you can have

a "circle jerk" (acknowledgements to Boo there) so there is

no need to disrupt normal conversations.

A thought came to me (happens sometimes). Would it be

possible to have disruptive posters confined to Bedlam for

a period instead of the customary "holiday".

Another punishment would be that the person being punished could only read Farangsay's posts!

I don't post much in here anymore. Not because I dont like childish humour, I love nonsense and wackiness as much as the next guy. But repetition only works up until a certain point.... and its tiring to wade through a thread consisting of two-five people having an internal dialogue about, essentially, nothing. When you have finished reading one, you really wish you had used your time doing something else.

...now let's all sing Kumbaya, Boon Me takes the lead:

Hottentots.jpg

Well put, Meadish.

One of the reasons a couple of current events threads were generated. Mostly to get away from the heavy preponderance of 'essentially nothing' topics. 'Rain' finally died a deserved death in the General Forum (I think)- perhaps stuff like 'Last Word' can follow suit in the not too-distance future as well?

BTW, I still remember how 'Kumbaya' goes - had the hots for this babe Sunday School teacher when I was a kid and paid real close attention to everything she taught me! :D

p.s. No disrespect intended but post #54 in the present thread is a good example of what we're talking about...

Nonsense threads in Bedlam have as much right to exist as any other. Skip 'em if you don't like 'em. Same same political threads, or any other thread for that matter. I'd hate Bedlam to become homogeneous.

Kayo's post in this thread is a one-off, not a hijacking. Sometimes you do the same in other threads, with a political interjection. Easy to ignore if you wish.

And Meadish makes a lot more sense when he takes the heavy moderator's hard hat off, innit. :D

Why am I saying all this? Coz I'm bored, and I can. :o

i have just read a post from one of our members who has raised a topic about the recent going on's in bedlam.

i would like to raise this issue so all bedlam members may post there own opinions on this subject and can judge whether its a fair assessment or not.

the complaint seems to be that bedlam has been devalued by groups of posters forming clique's, quasi chat rooms and engaging in childish backslapping humour.

he seems to think that the balance of humour, bawdiness and serious discussion has been destroyed and the bedlam of old has disappeared rendering it unenjoyable for him. ?

i would like to add my opinion to kick it off.

as far as serious discussion goes, i thought that was left for the general forum and bedlam was lightly moderated, so seasoned posters could have a bit of fun without the fear of being banned. ( within reason of course )

as far as childish backslapping humour goes, it seems to me, as in real life, that certain posters share similar humour, so how can one group be devalued. ?

its only natural that similar thinking people gravitate towards each other enjoying common thoughts.

bedlam is an open book and all posters should be able to express there unique sense of humour without fear of serious attack and posts being raised in objection.

some of the subjects raised in bedlam i find unhumourous, but i dont condem the poster as other people enjoy them.

humour is in the mind of the reader, we are all individual and think differently enjoying some peoples humour whilst rejecting others. ( only natural )

let every poster be his own person i say, especially in bedlam.

thank you very much. :D

without prejudise to the original author.

For some reason certain members HATE Terry and do everything they can to make him look bad, so that he will be banned. I don't understand why because he is pretty much always pleasant and never malicious and makes the board a more interesting and humorous place.

There are some posters in Bedlam that are weird and silly as he11, but no one complains about them because they are not out to hurt anybody and it is easy to ignore them if you want to. Actually, they are the most prolific posters in Bedlam.

If you don't like Terry, just click on the ignore button and keep the nasty comments off the board. :o

Well said Mr G :D !

Nonsense

Care to give us a link to these "Nasty Comments" all I can see is your nasty comment.

I don't see anyone hating Terry, just another of your hindlick manouvers there mate. Terry has a decent sense of humour but his posts do tend to get lost in the fluffy saccharine BS thats taken over in Bedlam.

Well said Mr G :D !

I have seen many of these comments over a period of time, but I haven't made a record of them, so am not going to provide any "links".

davidjtayler seems to agree with me. Perhaps I am not the only one who has noticed them? :o

i've seen one particularly vicious, emotional and completely unjustified attack on terry, by one high profile member. The offending posts were deleted of course.

I see a load of people on this, and other, threads griping on about "ThaiVisa/Bedlam has gone downhill and is no longer the witty, informative, serious discussion forum blah blah blah that it used to be years ago".

Never forget people nostalgia aint what it used to be. :D

As for terry57 being part of the problem, I remember a thread he started regarding farangs wearing yellow shirts as a mark of respect for H.M. the King. A reasonable question and good post, yes? No! Dragged down into the highbrow abyss by folks with nothing to input but snide comments about his place of residence and veiled references to academic thinkers hiding behind forum rules. Oh, and doing an English "teacher's" grammatical and spelling check and marking of his submissions.

:o

I totally agree with Mr G, Grover and Phil here as can be seen in their previous posts.

I guess a few ground rules need to be laid out as to how bedlam is to be used by its punters as shouldn't this be an enjoyable place to frequent and not a focal point for bickering and arguments between members....?

Since my induction to bedlam I have always found it a fun place to post which I hope should be the case for all that post and read here.

This doesn't bother me......bedlam is mostly just shit anyway and as they say you can't polish a turd.

First we get sexist, and now we get racial. Why bring the Polish people into it? :o ...and then you drag the Turks into it, although you misspelled it...

hey grover,

ive just written a brilliant account of that incident but ive had to bin it.

the reason being we cant discuss moderation issues, but how pathetic was that incident , and the said person did not even get a holiday. :D

i got so much i can say about that, but im gagged once again.

anyway boys,

thanks for defending the good reverend but ive only had trouble with a few posters on this forum.

they dont worry me at all, as there only pond fodder and many other posters dont like them either, so in the grand scheme of this forum they are nothing.

i like most of the people on this forum but never pretend to like them all, as this is not natural and shows a weakness of personality.

at least with me im up front and the ones i dont get on with know exactly who they are. ;)

but i got to tell you grover, ive made a heap of friends since ive been on this forum and my inbox is overflowing with invites for a nice drink. :o

so the few who dislike me are the losers arn't they. :bah:

cheers to all my mates on this forum. :bah:

the top reverend,

terence.

and a special hello to dave and MR G as there both nuggets of gold in a river some times contaminated with a few turds. :D :D

this is bedlam and im aloud to say that arnt i. :D

:o

lets look at this from both sides of the book.

regards my yellow T shirt thread which was a light hearted, fun and respectful thread, which got an incredible amount of hits and comments in a very short time.

it had to be pulled by a mod, as 2 posters turned it around into a political humourless debate drawing in the royal family therefore breaking forum rules.

every body was having a nice time until they done that and killed it.

it works both ways , so whats the problem.?

Don't want to warm up the Yellow T-Sirt thread, but what Terry started was one of his innocent I-know-all-Thailand things and got a (surely much too) hard bashing from people who know better because they are closer to the core and not just at the surface of things.

Terry's mistake was his stiff defense of the point he made in the beginning of the thread and this hardened up the fronts and led to the mutual bashing.

Sad collateral damage: An othewise very intersting thread has gone down the drain...

In case anyone is jumping to incorrect conclusions, I want to point out that, although Terry57 and I have had words in the past, I didn't post on the T/shirt thread and have no knowledge of the events there.

raro,

i never think that i know every thing about los, as only a very stupid person would espouse that logic.

all i try to do is put a positive spin on a country that i have had 20 years experience with and had some incredible experiences.

i cant help it, if i like the thai people, the country, the culture, the food, the islands and the general chaos of los, as thats how i tru'ly feel.

i think its got something to do with my profession, where i see people in very difficult times, losing there houses, life's and going through incredible pain and hardship at times.

my life is a dream, i have a choise whether to be happy or wallow in the things ive seen and complain about threads in bedlam or some other pathetic crap that someone throws up.

thats why i dont do negative people very well, as they do not know what real hardship is and complain about things that are absolute bollicks. :D

as far as my yellow T shirt thread goes, there were only 2 posters throwing up this deep and unmeaningful rubbish that killed the thread.

i can name them, but will not as its pointless.

a great thread destroyed by 2 negative punters. :D

its there for all to see. :o

your old mate owes a couple of cyber-towers you had better be there when he delivers.
