March 4, 200719 yr Taken from the B.Post today. Sports >> Sunday March 04, 2007 TALKINGSportsEDWARD THANGARAJAH Quote:- Lee could be fine model for youth In a world filled with scandals and controversial happenings, it is rare that we come across exemplary, well-behaved sportsmen and sportswomen. Many are getting involved with ugly, unpleasant happenings. New scandals are breaking out each day. In addition we hear of the increasing use of drugs and illegal steroids which is a crying shame. With all these nasty happenings, it is rare for us to come across good, well-behaved athletes, whom we could cite as strong role models. Listening to Australian fast bowler Brett Lee, who has been hailed as the 21st century's first designer cricketer on BBC's Hardtalk Extra yesterday, I was convinced that at last we have an outstanding sportsman who could be ranked as a real role model for youngsters to follow. The world needs more athletes like Lee to talk about their background and their feelings for fellow sportsmen. Unquote. For the complete article please go to the following url:- http://www.bangkokpost.com/Sports/04Mar2007_sport12.php I watched Hard talk extra last night and it was a delightful change to the usual players that come over as brash individuals and leave one thinking cricket has become / developed into yet another arrogant profession and the sportmanship has been taken out of the equation. This young man is a credit to all sportspeople / cricketers and gives us hope that cricket and sport will once again become what it used to be and all that was positive in the game will hopefully return. I personally was well impressed with his demeanour and how he came across. A fine and unassuming young man. marshbags P.S. I was tempted to post my observations on this interview last night but was holding off until today. I,m pleased i did now as it was noted by others, including the writer of the above article who is obviously more eloquent than myself. I couldn,t have stated it better.
March 4, 200719 yr When Brett Lee was a young and up and coming cricketer he had a part-time job in a Taylors/Mensware shop in Sydney. His boss was very good to him , giving him time off for training and touring with junior teams, so when Brett had made it so to speak and was earning big money he continued to work part-time for this guy for quite a few years as a mark of gratitude for what the guy had done for him.
