BM writes "Jetta is def suffering some off field issues..mental health of some type. He was hardly trying at times...very poor efforts"

Never a good idea to take on a player returning home to his extended familys area.

Especially when he has been a star in a winning team. There is too much family pressure to continue to be a star and if not, the effort drops away to blow away in dust.

Maybe Simmo didnt know this, but the Eagles brain trust should have been aware of history.

Paddy Dangerfield says hibiggrin.png

I'm hearing ya though mate.

Eddie MCG pretends to be the white knight on so many issues, but he has made numerous Freudian slips which reveal his true persona.

In 2006, during his short stint as CEO of Channel Nine, he threatened to 'bone' (fire) journalist Jessica Rowe, and threatened that another reporter would be "eating a shit sandwich" (given a pay cut)

At the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, McGuire and Mick Molloy were commentating the men's figure skating. Molloy said: "They don't leave anything in the locker room, these blokes, do they?" to which McGuire replied, ""They don't leave anything in the closet either, do they?"

In 2013, McGuire and Luke Darcy were chatting on-air about an upcoming King Kong musical, and McGuire quipped, ""Get Adam Goodes down for it, d'you reckon?" This was only days after McGuire criticised that 13 year old girl for calling Goodes an ape.

Now this foot-in-mouth comment directed at Caroline Wilson.

The Collingwood pres has made many other regrettable gaffes over the years. I don't find any of them particularly offensive, as I don't claim the moral high ground on sexist, homophobic, bullying and racist issues. BUT Eddie Hypocrite does.

Frawley apologised on Bounce on fox and Eddie has made an apology in the media today. Neither mentioned in theire apology any personal hurt that Wilson might have suffered. More about a joke that didn't work. (Frawley was man enuff to call Wilson and apologise in person though)

Eddie's statement leaves the door open to keeping the issue alive, imo, and shows he has no contrition over the matter.

Eddie might be great for Collingwood, but he isn't great for the big AFL picture.

AFL Round 13 highlights: Mark Robinson’s likes and dislikes from the weekend

THE good, the bad and the ugly from Round 13.

Hawks and Cats step up, the return of Michael Barlow, fallout from Brad Scott’s case of foot in mouth and the continued woes of Brisbane and Port Adelaide.

Herald Sun chief football writer Mark Robinson looks at the highlights and lowlights from the weekend.

Have your say and chat live with Robbo from 11.45pm (EST) on Monday.

LIKES

1. ATTACKING FOOTY

Mark “Bomber” Thompson said it and was criticised, but it’s funny how quick, forward ball movement — and best through the corridor — can lead to much better football. Essendon was devastating in the first half on Sunday

and led the Giants by 12 points at the long break. They were unable to hold off the Giants in the second half, but that ain’t the point. Another standing ovation from Bombers fans for the effort and the excitement.

2. HAWTHORN

The line of doubters start at Ballarat, but here we are after the first week of the bye rounds and the Hawks are equal top, but fourth on percentage. They have at times this season played labour-intensive footy,

yet the fact is on a win-loss basis they are right in the hunt. James Sicily and Tim O’Brien are maturing as footballers and although contested possessions supposedly continue to be a problem area, the Hawks simply get it done.

You could argue about the Hawks that smart footy is more important than contested footy.

3. CHALLENGES

So, what can be done about Dangerfield and Selwood? Finals teams best get some strategies in place because what we’ve learned in the past two weeks is that team defence/accountability won’t get it done.

Teams can go head-to-head but if the Geelong pair find the ball, their impact on the result is frightening. Tag one? Tag them both? Probably can’t do both because of the disruption to their own midfield, but can’t

believe a team will go into qualifying, preliminary or grand final without Dangerfield having a run-with opponent. It still might not work, but it’s got to be better than no tag at all.

4. THE CATS

The premiership favourite tag is a tag no club really wants. That said, the Cats have it this week. And they have it on the back of a different Geelong performance on Saturday night. Heading into the game,

they were ranked No.1 for inside 50 and time in forward half differential, but against the Bulldogs they were in the negative in both areas. They created just 11 turnovers in their forward half — their fewest in any game this season

— but they were able to score and move the ball from behind centre to score 55 points — their most in any game this season.

5. WALKING THE WALK

North Melbourne clearly targeted Luke Breust on Friday night over and above their general attitude to stand up against the team which has bullied them in recent years.

It means nothing to get into someone’s face if you don’t complement it with a fierce attack on the ball. North did both and seemed to ruffle the Hawks, before probably going too far

and giving away silly free kicks off the ball. Two things to note: 1) North lost no friends and 2) it still wasn’t enough to knock over the Hawks.

6. TRENT DUMONT

Breakout game in game 11 for the Kanga and thrived with the responsibility with Andrew Swallow and Ben Cunnington out of the team. Had career-highs in disposals (24) and equal career-highs in clearances

(seven) and contested possessions (15) largely playing on Sam Mitchell. With Brad McKenzie’s skill, Aaron Mullett’s legs and Mason Wood’s enterprise, the Kangas had a different look about them. They looked

like they moved the ball faster and you have to wonder if coach Brad Scott keeps that trio when the guns return.

7. MICHAEL BARLOW

The topsy-turvy season of the Fremantle midfielder hit an all-time high with 43 disposals, eight tackles, nine clearances and two goals against the Power. He’s been dropped twice this season and returned game total

disposals of 16 (Round 2), 14 (Round 4) and 15 (Round 7). Clearly best afield on Saturday and clearly back in Ross Lyon’s plans. Played tagger again, this time on Port match-winner Robbie Gray. For their 79 minutes

opposed to each other, Barlow had 31 disposals and two goals and Gray just 16 disposals.

8. HONESTY

Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley has had enough of his under-performing team. In a finals or bust game, he labelled his team “spooked”, that “early in the game it felt like we didn’t really want to win almost” and

“something goes missing, there’s a part of us that’s not courageous enough at the right times”. Coaches like to protect their players in public, for the fear of losing them and/or the task of picking them back up during the week, but not so Kenny. And he was right.

9. ELLIOTT YEO

Still not playing what many would consider finals-type, but talent got this one done for the Eagles. At least it was a road win and some of the poor performers on the road had huge impact. No one more than Yeo.

Had 21, laid 11 tackles and had seven inside 50s. It was sort of game we’d like to see more of because he needs to lift his impact if the Eagles are going to challenge this year.

10. TACKLING

There’s the ones you love such as Aaron Mullett on Luke Breust and Luke McDonald on Cyril Rioli on Friday night and Sunday, Patrick Ambrose on a hapless Giant. And then there’s the quantity.

The Swans laid a record 155 tackles against the Demons on Sunday, helped of course by the wet conditions which kept the ball on the deck. Luke Parker led by the way with 17 and 10 teammates

had more than seven. In good humour, you’d think Jakey Lloyd might be asked to do more. Just two tackles for him.

DISLIKES

1. BRAD SCOTT

There’s nothing which can be said which the North Melbourne coach hasn’t probably already said to himself. Bitter after the defeat, he launched at the umpires without fully investigating what was said on the field.

We may never know who Jamie Macmillan spoke to on the bench, who then spoke to Scott and North Melbourne has no plans to release this person’s name. Clearly, that person would be gutted. The AFL had every

right to be incensed and will probably take the opportunity to whack Scott — regardless of how the club responds to the “please explain” due to go out on Monday. Scott is known to take pot shots at the AFL and the umpires,

his most recent before Friday night being his comments on the umpires having the rule of the week.

2. SO WHAT’S THE PENALTY?

A suspension would be ridiculous, but the AFL cannot be soft on this one. Scott went at the umpires and the AFL hates that. It was suggested on Saturday a $5000 would be sufficient but players get that for losing their license.

No, it has to be more than that. If the AFL is fair dinkum about integrity and umpires, it has to be in the vicinity of $30,000, if not more.

3. BRISBANE

After a week of eyeballing and demanding standards, boy, did the Lions play a strange version of footy. They won the ball well — they recorded 445 disposals which was a club record from 1999

onwards — but won just 30 per cent of their total possessions contested, which was their fifth lowest percentage in a game under Justin Leppitsch. Pity they didn’t have the skill level to play the game

style coach Leppitsch implemented. Brisbane kicked short 68 per cent of the time, clearly the highest percentage of any side for the round.

4. SO WHAT GIVES?

Effort was there this week, but the Lions coughed up the ball. Ranked 18th for both contested footy and clearances going into the round, the Lions conceded 55 points from turnovers and 69 from clearances

and that’s despite winning the clearances 44-32. They also won contested ball 138-125 which tells us that numbers sometimes mean diddly squat.

5. JAKE STRINGER

Because he was at No.10 in the pre-season Top 50, maybe the expectations are too high. Still, 26 goals in 13 games is too light on for a player of his talent. That he’s kicked 14 goals in three of those games

leaves 12 goals from the other 10. Yes, he can be scintillating but has found 2016 to be more difficult than he was expecting. In fact, the Bulldogs forward line - which is averaging 88 points game - is slightly

dysfunctional. They get the all inside 50 well enough, but don’t get enough shots at goal. They have scored a goal from 23 per cent of inside 50s, which is ranked 16th in the competition.

6. BLOKESWORLD

Journalist Caroline Wilson can fight her own battles but surely club presidents Eddie McGuire and James Brayshaw and media identity Danny Frawley went too far in “joking” Wilson could be drowned

in next year’s Freeze at the ‘G to help raise money. They’ll say their comments on radio on Queen’s Birthday Monday were in “good fun”, but it doesn’t wash. This sort of stuff would make the editors at Blokesworld blanch.

So, what are you going to do about it AFL? Laugh along or take a stand?

7. SO, WHAT WAS KENNY TALKING ABOUT?

The leaders. Some of the inexperienced players didn’t cut it, such as Logan Austin, Jake Neade and Aaron Young, but this outing needed the leaders to have strong impact. Hamish Hartlett stars one

week and goes missing the next, Travis Boak was quiet, Justin Westhoff again and not enough from Robbie Gray, Ollie Wines and Matthew Broadbent. Westoff will be remembered as one of the players whose best is game-changing and his worst is pedestrian.

8. BERNIE VINCE

He’s either clumsy or dirty, but Bernie Vince can’t seem to get his head around the fact you can’t bump players in the head. He runs the gauntlet most weeks and this time it was a bump on Sydney’s

Luke Parker which will probably draw match review panel reaction. He’s a star, a player who gives his all, but it might be best he shelve the bump to stay on the park.

Crikey, Norf were on top and 10 zip.

Despite this, they still had question marks over the quality of the team.

Have now lost 3 out of 3 of their tests against quality sides and they get a "like".

"North lost no friends". They also lost the game Robbo.

Five 5 Tipsters shared the honors this week with a full boot of 6/6. Joboss had the closest margin of the 5!

Joboss

Bigwazz

Chooka

RIpstanley

Radar501

AlexRRR and Myself are still out front on 84 points, with Ron19 snaapping at our heels on 83. We then have 5 tipsters on 82 points.

Its a tight race with 10 Tipsters able to go the front of the pack with a 9/9 on any given full week...Tipsters at 77 and below might need to start considering some left field selections

Congrats to the fab five who got all 6 and joboss for getting the chocolates.

Don't forget the footy kicks of next Thursday night with Ade versus Norf.

Also, Freo against Collingwood at the G is a hard one (for me) to tip.

No prizes for guessing which one let me down this week.

They will be in the top 4 but that's about it,unless there is a Phoenix rising of the dead and aged in sept they again will just make up numbers, no stars, no one who can stop a play maker, they are a nice solid team that can play and so can most others, not enough of anything down there and the coach? Nope just average.

Eddie is saying what most people think in this case,.......

Absolutely correct Alex........and if Eddie had made the same jibe about a Sam Newman or a Dave Hughes, it would have been taken as just harmless ribbing.

But in the very politically correct world we reside in, jokes concerning special interest groups usually drop like a led zeppelin.

Eddie is street smart, and yet, once again, he should have known better, Maybe he could fit one of those five-second delays to his mouth like radio stations have when they take on-air calls from outside.

Note: Caroline Wilson belongs to at least two special interest groups. 1. she is female. 2. she was born without a funny bone.

Two excellent reasons for any journo not to mention her in banter.

That is something you usually do to people you like.

Eddie can't stand Caro and I thought there was more than a hint of malice in what he was saying.

Especially when he was calling her a black widow.

In a week when there was a game for the White Ribbon Cup which is men's violence against women, it was totally inappropriate.

I don't think the comment was sexist, just nasty and totally uncalled for.

Once again Ed showing his true colours.

I read the report in the Age this morning, it was quoted as...her close friends didn't see anything in it...but caroline when she got around to read what was written didn't agree, her friends have publicly stated that the written version sounded a lot worse than the spoken version.

No as man i will make a stand here we have reached a stage where we can slag a guy off and there are no recriminations...yet a few words that could be taken out of context to a woman and all hell breaks loose, she is using this just to push Caroline Wilson into the spotlight...she thinks she's a good jorno...i stopped reading her pieces years ago, she's been found out a few times too, she's a modern version of a Truth newspaper reporter, she writes like she she is absolutely right, she bam bozzels you with so much merda and the tone of most of her articles is that of a bulldog with a bone.

She is playing the woman card to deflect the poo that sticks to her lousy uneducated articles, its a cheap shot, to say she's not popular in the football world would be true in the end she works for a company that is trying to sell newspapers she has a licence to wind people up.........you wanna play like that take some of it back...and WILL nothing wrong with whats was spoken at that event, if you took it out of the context of that event then there would be a case to answer...

Eddie McGuire joked about forking out $20,000 to see Caroline Wilson taking the plunge at next year's Big Freeze, $50,000 to see her go under.

Sooooo......I can see a successful resolution to this unfortunate media spat

Big Freeze 3 in 2017. Caroline Wilson dresses up as the Collingwood mascot and gets pushed into the icy water by Neale Daniher.

Eddie McGuire, the gentleman as always, is waiting to assist the shivering magpie out of the tub. Lots of smiles and giggles all round.

McGuire then puts his money where his mouth is and donates the $20K, no, make it $50K, he promised to the Motor Neuron Disease charity. The flow-on effect from the public would be enormous.

WIN WIN WIN for all concerned.

Gee, it's pretty tight at the top.

Dropping one you shouldn't could be the difference in finishing top 4

or getting a home final.

I wont quote the relevant posts to save space but I'm firmly in the pro-Caroline camp.

I like her articles and the mark of a good journalist is that you still read their stories whether you agree with the content or not. (Politics excepted.)

Like it or not, 50% of AFL supporters are women and a lot of TV advertising is directed at them.

This is what pays for the clubs.

I've supported McGuire in the past, I thought a lot of the "Eddie everywhere" criticism was petty but he's done his dash now.

How can he deal with young players in his club that carry on like he does?

People say he should be a role model, well he is... for those that the AFL should not want.

You can then capture or cut and copy anything on your screen. Very easy to use.

That's how I do the weekly tables. Although you can't notice it, I have to do it in two parts then join them.

Excellent tool with the only drawback I can see is that you can only cut an copy what is on your screen. It won't scroll to let you copy a bigger file.

I also use it elsewhere to crop unwanted parts out of an image to post onto thaivisa.

HOLDEN is reviewing its major sponsorship of Collingwood as the fallout continues to last Monday's controversial radio segment that saw Fairfax journalist Caroline Wilson the target of an Eddie McGuire-led drowning jibe.

McGuire joked with North Melbourne chairman James Brayshaw and All Australian selector Danny Frawley about drowning Wilson and offered to donate $50,000 if she "stays under" water ahead of the Big Freeze at the 'G fundraising event on Queen's Birthday.

The exchange on Triple M led to criticism from the AFL in a statement on Sunday night, and eventually saw Frawley, McGuire and lastly Brayshaw express their regret.

Car manufacturer expressed its concern on social media on Monday night, and on Tuesday issued a statement.

"Holden categorically disapproves of Eddy (sic) McGuire's inappropriate comments, along with those of his co-hosts. Holden prides itself on diversity, inclusion and social responsibility – they are cornerstones of our business," the statement said.

"Comments like these, regardless of their intent, have no place in today’s Australia and reflect poorly on the Collingwood Football Club, its fans, stakeholders and sponsors. Unfortunately, it can call into question the culture of the club, overshadowing good work done in the diversity space and local communities.

"Holden is engaging with Collingwood to directly express our disappointment and discuss the future of our sponsorship."

McGuire said on Tuesday morning he could understand the position of one of the club's major backers.

"They're entitled to it," he told Triple M.

"They put their name to the club. I hope we can work through the situation."

McGuire will front a scheduled Magpies board meeting on Tuesday night, and while he admitted he had reconsidered his position at the club, he indicated he would not be vacating his post.

"I will only be there if I'm a positive force and not a negative one," he said.

"At the moment I have been a negative force for the past few days, but I will work hard."

The car company last year signed a three-year, multi-million dollar deal to become the Magpies' major sponsor and holder of the naming rights to their Olympic Park training base, replacing Westpac.

Holden first partnered with the Magpies in 2013.

On Monday night, Wilson said she was prepared to move on following the McGuire-led ordeal and hoped the "horrible" remarks would drive a change in attitudes towards violence against women.

The respected Age journalist added she had since accepted the trio's public apologies, expressing her appreciation for McGuire's actions over the last few hours.

"He's [McGuire] definitely changed his tune. He's had a few cracks at it and he's finally got there tonight," Wilson told Channel Nine on Monday night.

"It's taken him time but to his credit I think what he said tonight was absolutely acceptable and I really appreciate that he's done it."

$80,000 fine for North Melbourne

NORTH Melbourne has been slapped with a massive $50,000 fine and coach Brad Scott fined a further $30,000 for his post-match comments about the umpires.

The AFL also considered suspending Scott but was swayed not to, given North made an unreserved apology little more than 12 hours after the Roos coach falsely claimed the umpires refused to pay Lindsay Thomas free kicks during the Kangaroos' nine-point loss to Hawthorn on Friday night.

AFL football operations manager Mark Evans told reporters on Tuesday afternoon Scott's comments had impugned the integrity of umpires and the League, warranting the hefty penalties for both club and coach.

"We don't have great precedents in these areas so it was really (a matter of) considering the comments and the impact that they had and we came to that (outcome) today," Evans said.

"We felt that Brad's comments had gone past more than just criticism of umpires and we felt that they actually went to the integrity of our umpiring staff, our umpires and the AFL itself.

"So we felt that there were actions there, not just the comments but actions, that maybe the club could have averted this."
